editHello, I'm Garrettw87. I noticed that in this edit to Kalaripayattu, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Garrett W. {☎ ✍} 03:04, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Kalaripayattu, you may be blocked from editing. Drmies (talk) 03:14, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- With all due respect, the current information is incorrect. The martial art began in modern day Tamil Nadu, during what was called the Sangam period. The name of the art is derived from tamil as well. Whilst songs and legends are nice to hear, one individual referencing a tourism book should not have been allowed to change the information on here. I used this site years ago for research purposes only to come back and find history is being rewritten and Wikipedia is enforcing it. Factsnotfiction2023 (talk) 03:21, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- You may be entirely right -- but you need to back up your changes with a useful edit summary at the very least – and if you're adding or significantly changing content, provide reliable sources. — Garrett W. {☎ ✍} 03:24, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- And if you're changing content that already has sources tied to it, then you need a really good reason for changing it – such as, the source is unreliable and should be removed, or the source does not back up the text it's attached to in the article – but even those kinds of edits can still be controversial, so if you do that and get reverted, that is when you refrain from making those edits again unilaterally and start a discussion about it on the article's talk page. — Garrett W. {☎ ✍} 03:30, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- I’ve just been going through the page’s discussions and found that many people have edited out information before. Additionally not all the information I removed/ edited had citations/references/sources to back them up. Factsnotfiction2023 (talk) 03:27, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
