Hello. You have a new message at GorillaWarfare's talk page.

Economy of Pittsburgh edit

Thanks for your recent edits to the above article! I just want to make sure that the plan you discuss, Allegheny Places, is discussed in secondary sources. In your addition to the article, you only cite from the plan itself, a primary source. However, to make the case that an entire section is a necessary addition to Wikipedia and to make sure that we, Wikipedia editors, are not interpreting primary sources and thereby performing original research but rather reporting and summarizing what is in secondary sources (see WP:V and WP:NOR), we need to have a couple of secondary sources as well. Do you have any you could cite? Awadewit (talk) 14:09, 12 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Since there are no secondary sources at all, I am a bit worried about including an entire section on this plan as this could run afoul of the no original research rule - we are granting the plan an importance that no other source has of yet, if you see my point. Sometimes we cite from primary resources on Wikipedia, but the policy that guides us reads thus: "Primary sources that have been reliably published may be used in Wikipedia, but only with care, because it is easy to misuse them. Any interpretation of primary source material requires a reliable secondary source for that interpretation. A primary source may only be used on Wikipedia to make straightforward, descriptive statements that any educated person, with access to the source but without specialist knowledge, will be able to verify are supported by the source. For example, an article about a novel may cite passages to describe the plot, but any interpretation needs a secondary source. Do not make analytic, synthetic, interpretive, explanatory, or evaluative claims about material found in a primary source. Do not base articles entirely on primary sources. Do not add unsourced material from your personal experience, because that would make Wikipedia a primary source of that material." One statement in the section would have to be cut, if the section remains, in light of this policy: "The plan has widespread support". The only way to know that is if it has been reported in the media, for example, as having such support. I will ask others to weigh in on this question, since it is a tricky one. I responded to your latest question on my talk page. Awadewit (talk) 23:20, 14 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I responded on the article's talk page. Aside from the bit Awadewit mentioned that's already been removed, I don't see much of a probelm with original research with what you've done so far.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:30, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
