Your question
editI am a mixed breed, but I have some Hungarian ancestry. I realize now that many Hungarian and Austrian dishes have Turkish origin, you know that?
Turkish delight
editYes, I did know that Some Turkish people have Hungarian ancestry, )and vice versa) but I did not know about these associations, very intreresting. The funny thing is that the Hungarian part of my relatives are actually engineers and mining engineers. So Goulash is also aTurkish word? Fascinating. I have heard of somebody who went to study Hungarian at the univerity that there are huge amounts of Turkish origin in Hungarian. Yes, Austrians are simply mad about Strudel and coffee, both actually with Turkish origin. And some say Kifli is crescent shaped to celebrate the victory. Sure, there is a lot more, Turkish delight called rahat, Törökméz, a kind of white sticky nougat with nuts, (törökméz is litterally Turkish honey), serbet, Turkish bath in Budapest, .. oh, hundreds of things...
What fun! :)) Warrington (talk) 13:45, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes I does look good, does’t it? But I am not that lucky, I haven’t had those for years...
Where I live nobody cooks theese Törökméz...
HI :-)
editHi Emir Ali Enç, I like the idea of the montage picture for Istanbul but I don’t think Hagia Sophia needs to be shown twice. I’m sure we can do something better. But still, great job. I recommend maybe showing Taksim Square, DolmaBahce or maybe even a traditional Ottoman yali... and personally I think Maidens Tower should be in the picture. Turco85 (Talk) 20:51, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
I get the perfect montage
editThursday 4 June 2009, 04:02 AM
I finally accumulated all the important sights of the city in this montage, as you can see, all the historic monuments, buildings and streets are here, in addition to a modern skyline present in other big cities like Istanbul. I am waiting only to approve it and I can place it and add the captions.
Regards,
Baltic Seaman
Cheers mate...

Döner kebabı
editI realize that "döner kebabı" is the 'grammatically correct' form, but does anyone actually say or write that? My Turkish grammars claim that döner kebap (without the ı), though originally kitchen slang, is the form that is actually used. True or false? --Macrakis (talk) 15:26, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Dö/oner kebap/b(ı) etc.
editThanks for the (very quick!) response. About merging döner kebap/gyros/shwarma, I think you'll find that I proposed this a long time ago, but was attacked from all sides. I still think that is the right thing to do, but it would require more patience and political skill than I have -- and it is still not certain that it would happen. In this case and other cases where the various nationalists clash, I have learned that they are huge time sinks, there is a lot of passion/venom attached to them, and every new wikipedian from the relevant countries re-opens the issue -- so I have just given up for now.
As for the ö/o issue, remember that this is the English-language wikipedia. The usual English name is doner kebab and not döner kebap/b, for the simple reason that English doesn't have an umlaut. Cf. my comments to a Greek wikipedian who insisted that phyllo/yufka should be written fillo or phyllo and not filo -- well, the English spelling, for better or worse, is 'filo'.
Finally, about kebap/b(ı), you're saying that you'd say e.g. Buradaki döner kebabının eti iyi değil? Can you help me with ordering a döner? Are any of the following correct/acceptable?: Bir döner, lütfen! // Bir tane döner verir misiniz? // Bir tane döner istiyorum. // Dostum, bir porsiyon döner! // Usta! Nefis dönerinizin bir kısmını alabilir miyim? --Macrakis (talk) 16:47, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Türkçe Vikipedi
editMerhaba.
Duyurusu nerede? Neophyrigian (talk) 21:05, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Doner/gyros/shawarma
editThere is a merge discussion at Talk:Gyros which I think you'll want to contribute to. --Macrakis (talk) 19:50, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Firstly my edit was not vandalism so I'd appreciate it if you didn't label it as such. If you read WP:VANDALISM you're notice that vandalism is defined as "any addition, removal, or change of content in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia." As I did not introduce the errors delibrately my edits were not vandalism. Secondly you should probably read WP:OWN. Neither you or the original creators own the article. The fact that you, nor they, did not comment in the discussion is irrelevant. A proper discussion was held and a proper consensus formed. If you're unhappy with that consensus then you should start another discussion. Dpmuk (talk) 14:42, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
Dürüm and Taboon bread
editHi, Emir! I keep intending to write you to thank you for a great evening, but I want to include photos etc. which I haven't organized yet.... As a general rule, I am more of a 'merger' than a 'splitter', and my tendency would be to merge taboon bread and lavash as unleavened flatbreads cooked on a tava/saç. Dürüm is something else again. This merger was done by User:AgadaUrbanit and didn't even preserve the name dürüm on the resulting page. --Macrakis (talk) 16:09, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, you could either WP:BE BOLD and start the Dürüm page again, making sure to write it in such a way that it's clear that its topic is not the bread, but the style of serving, or you could start a discussion on taboon bread. As for lavash vs. taboon, honestly I have no idea what the difference(s) are and whether they're systematic (e.g. is Armenian lavash like north Syrian taboon, but Izmir lavash something quite different?). Tortillas are clearly different from wheaten unleavened flatbreads because they are made of a specially treated maize. This behaves quite differently from wheat breads, as it doesn't include any gluten. There is probably room for a generic unleavened wheat flatbreads containing no fat and cooked on a dry (not greased) griddle (tava/saç), including everything from wheat tortillas to chapatis /rotis and presumably including taboon and lavash -- though again, there may be some issue I'm not aware of that makes those distinctive. And I don't know what a good title would be for that umbrella article. --Macrakis (talk) 17:45, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
Emir, I would like to remind you
- In your edit summary 1 you have called me "Khüşyar". This is not my username. Your edit summary can be considered unacceptable and violation of wikipedia policies.
- Wikipedia works like this: everything has to be sourced based on what experts of the subjects say and only what they say, and the source should be available for verifications. I think your reverts 2 are not acceptable.
- Your edit 3 is violation of don't add what you, and maybe only you, believe to be correct.
- and much more.
Please remember that change of "related drinks" to "other names" is not only original research but also a way of imposing your way of thinking. Wikepedia works based on agreements between editors that have different points of view and for this please use talk page. I hope this minor page does not become a place for edit wars and disputes because its stable version was happily accepted by most users and change to it should be made with care. Xashaiar (talk) 00:42, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, Emir, thanks for your edits to ayran. I tend to agree with Xashaiar; Turkish government web sites are probably not reliable sources of information on culinary history. I've also made a number of minor capitalization and grammar edits. --Macrakis (talk) 02:49, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

- Hallo Ali, you kebab expert! I did stopped editing for a while, but I am back again.. And you? And what about your recent edits:who cares about people in the UK... haha... When are you going to put something, anything on your userpage? If you still have your name in red after five years of editing (or how many it was) still, people think that you are just a new editor. How about a nice picture of a kebab on it? (did it myself...) Or a description of yourself? How is life with you? I changed my name to Hafspajen, as you noticed. For fun. Have you had some Turkish bath lately? Warrington Hafspajen (talk) 18:08, 3 November 2013 (UTC

- Actually Christmas is not a very religious feast, lots of people cerebrate it without being at all religious. Just to receive presents and eat a good meal that night and well - just have a good time with the family. Hafspajen (talk) 13:51, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
