Florida State League (Baseball)

Looks like he's been blocked for a day, so you can take a rest. And the dude is quite misinformed. Ocala, where I live now, is the hotbed of racism, not Gainesville. Florida

Happy to pitch in. It's always good to have a second set of eyes review these things with all the details involved. Great work with all the photos. I'm slowly but surely making my way through the Bay Area. The temperatures generally stay pretty moderate in the Bay Area throughout the year. It gets hot up in Sonoma and Napa and east of the Oakland Hills during the summer months, but it's very dry. Nothing like Florida's insane summer heat and humidity. As far as I'm concerned, we've got just about perfect weather here. It makes me crazy when I hear people complain that it's too hot (i.e. anything over 70) or too cold (anything under 60). I tell people to go live just about anywhere else in the U.S. for a year and then see if they still want to complain about our weather. --sanfranman59 (talk) 03:44, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

I saw you adding the link to it on the Ocala article. Out of curiousity, I checked it on Google Street View and realized I'd taken pictures of it. I could've sworn it was a courthouse, 'cause I parked in courthouse parking behind it. It was right across from South Side School, and looked neat, so I took pictures. I should've realized it was a Coke plant, since it looks just like the one here in Ocala.

I photographed all (or nearly all) the Opa-Locka NRHPs. See here. When I was stubbing the Florida articles way back when, as I got near the end I got lazy-ish. Some of the Thematic Resource/MPS groups I didn't do individual articles for. I'm not sure if any are worth individual articles.

The other architects you mention look to have done Jax NRHPs. I did visit up there, but I'm planning to go there for a full weekend to knock out that county, as it's one of the biggies, next to Dade and Sarasota counties. Keep on keepin' on, dude. :) --Ebyabe (talk) 23:07, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for helping out with rating the importance of some of these lists; thought I might have to finish them out on my own. I was about to start going through Texas, but I'm not sure if you're still going with AWB or not. How, exactly, are you going through the counties? I was going through and doing them state by state, but it appears as if you're just going through the remaining lists in alphabetical order? I looked through all your contributions just then and corrected the ones that should be redirects. One thing I did think about, though, is that if a county list didn't have the NRHP banner on it already (something I've come across for several hundred lists, actually), AWB wouldn't catch it. Tallahassee (Amtrak station)

That's actually funny, because I was about to head over to the Hialeah Seaboard Air Line Railway Station a few weeks ago to take some photos, and saw that you had already done so and put them up! Beautiful photos, too, gorgeous color. --Jhw57 (talk) 18:29, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

The Hialeah station IS really tucked away. Anyway, I do mostly old RR stations, so they've been pretty much exhausted here in South Florida. (I was in Tally on business, so grabbed the opportunity to get the depot there.) What NRHP stuff is left down here does seem pretty inaccessible (um, I don't have a boat!), though I probably could get a couple of things. Rating National Historic Landmarks

I see you've joined me again in assessing the importance of all the National Historic Landmark articles. I was wondering how you were going about doing that. I remember a while ago that someone (not sure if it was you) was just going off the "National Historic Landmarks in STATE" categories. If you're doing that, yes it does catch nearly all of the actual NHLs, but it can also catch some non-NHLs. Many editors that don't know the difference between a regular NRHP listing and an NHL listing mistakenly put articles into these categories that shouldn't be in them. To avoid that, I would advise checking to make sure the state list of NHLs is in the "What Links Here" page. Without AWB at my disposal (they still don't have a mac version), I am forced to go through the state lists manually, which sucks, but it is also a lot more accurate. Just throwing out suggestions. Awesome. I assessed the quality of that article as Start-class. I've also gone through your contributions prior to my comment here and found only one false positive. You added a high importance rating to Lightship Ambrose, which was in the category mistakenly (and has now been removed from the project altogether). The actual NHL article is United States Lightship LV-87; I've added the project banner to that article, so all is good!

I also see that you've removed the NY NHL category from Croton Aqueduct and Albertus Van Loon House. I agree with removing the category from the latter, but the Croton Aqueduct is actually an NHL. It shows up on List of NHLs in NY and everything. As such, I'm going to revert that edit and rate the importance of the article as High. (Didn't realize that it was already in the NYC NHL category; my fault.. proceed). I rated the Albertus Van Loon House as Mid-importance since it's also listed on the NY state register.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 19:46, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

I rated it Related-importance since the event itself is not on the register, but the building in which the event occurred is, and the event was a significant part of the history of the building. Thank you, thank you! And I'm actually ahead of the game, as there's a pending listing there, that I got whilst I was in the area. So in a month or two when it gets added, it'll still be fully illustrated, ha-ha!

I'm bugged, though, b/c I'm one shy of Duval County being fully illustrated, b/c the NRHP had the wrong address! It was for Centennial Hall. It peeves me no end when that happens. I'm hoping I can get people I know up there to take a couple of shots for me. Cross your fingers. Miami wikiproject

Ebyabe - I see that you were in on the original construction of the Miami Wikiproject page. I have recently been trying to improve the assessment of Miami articles. In this work I have looked at the Wikiprojects of other cities for comparison. New Orleans is a good example. I see in New Orleans' Assessment chart there are Qualities such as Category, Portal, Project, and Template. Other cities have these qualities too, but Miami doesn't. I have spent a few hours trying to fix this but I am getting nowhere. Could you fix it? And then tell me how you did it? Thanks, GroveGuy (talk) 02:37, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I partly figured it out. The category and template ratings are being lumped together under NA. I jiggered the code for the WikiProject Miami template. Won't know if this fixes things for a few hours, as it seems to take that long for changes to work through. Well, I think I found it. On the page Template:WPBannerMeta it says we need the value "extended" for QUALITY_SCALE. The current value for our project is "yes". New Orleans uses "extended". By George, I think we've got it! Altered the template, and the changes are starting to happen. Created the template and category categories so they'll have somewhere to go. Sorry I didn't get back to you right away. I'm still taking photos, though not contributing nearly as many to the site. I fill in some holes where I can. I have visited a lot of sites lately though. I recently moved to Chicago and it has been very soothing as far as my architecture/historic sites fix goes. My most recent contributions are: File:Chicago, Illinois Gauler Twin Houses 1.jpg, File:Chicago, Illinois Gauler Twin Houses 2.jpg, File:Chicago, Illinois Uptown Theater1.jpg, and File:Chicago, IL Basilica of St. Hyacinth.jpg. I have also been doing a bit of article work. My only real recent creation was Starved Rock Lock and Dam, which hit DYK. I've done some pretty major additions and alterations (including sourcing) to Winston Burdett, Larry LeSueur and Starved Rock State Park. I have also been trying to maintain the subcats at Category:Underground Railroad locations. So the Wiki work isn't as prolific but I'm seeing more amazing buildings than ever before. So I'm pretty much done with the major jaunts, which is kind of weird. I'm doing some pre-planning for Georgia, but also taking virtual roadtrips via Google Street View. Gotcha. That must be weird. I bet you couldn't have imagined the day when you'd have completed an entire state. Wow. I will have my hands full of places to visit while I live in Chicago, there's something like 500+ NRHP sites in Cook County, and another 100+ that are Chicago Landmarks but not NRHP listed. Recently a lot of the work of famed architect Mies van der Rohe has started to meet the age requirement for NRHP listing so some of my favorite modernist work is being recognized, and there are something like 11 of his buildings in the city here. I am taking Amtrak downstate in a couple weeks, during which I will tie up some loose ends in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, mostly properties listed since my last visited. "high-importance" articles

I'm a bit suspicious of all those class-B articles being added as high-importance. In particular, I don't see how The Breakers is at the same level as Monticello. Thank you! I was just expanding on the idea that, what with Wikimania being in DC next year, it'd be the perfect opportunity to get all of DC illustrated. I wasn't planning on twisting any arms or anything. Just letting people know what holes to fill in, and where, was my thought. And maybe people could consider photographing stuff on the way to and from. I just got back from Savannah, and photo'd a bunch of stuff along the I-95 corridor. Thanks for the cookies. I was more concerned about people thinking I was twisting arms. I'd love to drum up interest in this, but don't want people to think I'm trying to tell them what to do. I get over-excited at times! I do hope that, at a minimum, we can get the DC lists fully-illustrated before Wikimania, and hopefully get articles for each NRHP site as well. Maybe even get the lists to FL status. I do intend to visit DC at least twice in the next year: once when the leaves are gone (to get photos of buildings rather than leaves), and probably on the 1st weekend of May, when the travelling carousel makes its sole annual appearance. As far as what to do during Wikimania - maybe we could organize some WP:GLAM-type events with NRHP, HABS, the DC SHPO or the NPS, since we'll be in their "hometown," either at Wikimania or separately. NRHP lists in Georgia

Hi Ebyabe, I noticed that you have recently split the National Register of Historic Places listings in Georgia into a new structure than before. What alerted me to this was the appearance of National Register of Historic Places listings in Dougherty County, Georgia on the list of new articles in the NRHP project. I'm not sure why the rest of them haven't shown up on the list, but they could possibly show up after a future run of the bot. While I have no problems with the restructuring, I noticed that none of the lists you created for individual counties had the WP:NRHP banner on the talk page. While I'm still working on tagging and rating the importance of all articles in the project, the project's lists are all tagged/rated now (and if I'm not mistaken, you helped with the final push of getting them done?). I've gone through and added project banners/rated the new lists you created, but I wanted to bring it to your attention in case I have missed previous changes such as this or in case I miss future ones. It would be very helpful in terms of keeping good project statistics if any new restructurings would be announced on the project talk page, just to alert people of the change in case you or whoever is implementing the change forgets to add these banners or in case someone objects to the change. Thanks for adding the banners; I didn't even think about adding them (obviously). I didn't consider it worth announcing, but I can see you point. I've reached a stopping point, so shan't be doing more. I wanted to give the larger listings their own page, so now all the counties with more than 20 listings have their own page. I'll tell the project, and see if others consider it a good idea to go further. I did a page for each county in Florida a while back, but dunno if I should do that with Georgia. I don't disagree with rating Romeo Historic District mid-level importance--it's a large and diverse HD, after all--but be cautious if you're using the criteria of a site having an additional Michigan state designation. The Michigan Historic Sites list is fairly large, and I think bumping *all* Michigan state-listed sites up in importance will result in a top-heavy importance scale, particularly in certain counties. Thanks. After doing some ratings, I decided to skip the ones with additional state importance, since I'm fuzzy on how that fits in to our ratings tree. Your point just makes it that much more relevant. I think I'm going to stick to the ends (low and high), since they're pretty well defined. I may do some more ratings later, but right now I'm working individual page-making for another state (Missouri). Btw, I don't mind if others change my ratings. "Needs infobox" for bridges

You appear to be adding "needs-infobox=yes" to the talk pages of articles, particularly bridges, that already have an infobox...well, geobox, but an NRHP infobox wouldn't be needed for those anyways. For geoboxes, the relevant data (i.e. refnum, listing date) can added into it just fine (the articles whose diffs I indicated above do that instead of embedding). Related importance ratings

I saw that you were going through the B-Class articles and rating some of them Related-importance. I'm not sure the algorithm you were using, but I assume that you were doing some combination of "B-Class articles of Unknown importance" and "Historic district contributing properties" or perhaps "nrhp_type=cp". Do take note that some articles that are in the CP category or that include that parameter are not really related-importance. There are individually listed contributing properties (INDCPs) as well, i.e. ones that are listed individually and also as a contributing property to a district. These articles should be rated at least low, and possibly mid, but definitely not related. I would say to skip articles that are in the INDCP category, and that would be enough, but not all of the INDCPs are in that category, so they have to be manually checked. I went through some of your edits and corrected a few errors, but my check was not thorough as I'm stressed for time at the moment. Perhaps you should run AWB again and see if some were incorrectly tagged? Sorry about the confusion. Thanks for the help, though!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 00:25, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Oh, don't worry haha. I saw the massive number of articles you assessed and started to go through, but then I was like meh.. so what if they're related instead of low.. it'll make that category look a little more like it belongs haha. Later (after everything has been assessed) there may be a desire to go through the entire Related-importance category and check for errors, but for now I'm not going to sweat it.. I know at least all the NHLs will be assessed correctly, and all the lists are good.. CPs are the only other category that is really clearly defined, so they will be easy to fix. Lake County Road 40? Really?

Some anonymous IP was adding a "Lake County Road 40" to the List of county roads in Lake County, Florida, which you fixed. Does that road really exist? Was Florida State Road 40 downgraded to a county road in Astor? Because I don't see it anywhere on the official Florida Lake County Road map(http://www.dot.state.fl.us/surveyingandmapping/geomap/Volu_c.pdf). Then again, they incorrectly list the southern terminus of Hernando County Road 493 as being Hexam Road on the official Florida Hernando County Road map, when it's actually at Florida State Road 50.
