Potential conflict of interest

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Active Banana ( bananaphone 13:24, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Potential user name issues

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, East India Co, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is the name of a company. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. Active Banana ( bananaphone 13:25, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Selecting a name that has nothing to do with your organization would be a better idea. It would also be helpful to indicate that you have read our conflict of interest guidelines and will cease to add promotional material for your company. Kuru (talk) 13:51, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your unblock request addressed only the username issue, not the issues of conflict of interest and possible promotional editing. Please read the full text of the block notice before making another request, including the part that says "If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it", and the instructions that follow it. Request reason:

East India Co I donot intend to make contributions on topics without convinced by a Wikipedia administrator that mean to it and the instructions that follow it, as our biggest mistake was we were trying to provide correct information regarding East India Company Article i.e In 2005 Return of “East India Company”, by The First Indian - Mr. Harsh Jain Since 1600's and because of this we are having so much problems, Regards and sorry for using the services of Wikipedia i.e. considered as No.1 encyclopedia online.

Decline reason:

I agree with the point made below by FisherQueen: you do not appear to be addressing the issue of what you will edit. In addition, you have given no indication of an intention to change to a user name which does not suggest that the account represents a company, and your use of "our" and "we" also strongly supports that impression. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:09, 3 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I don't understand this request, but it doesn't appear to include a promise to avoid writing about your own company. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 11:10, 3 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

If this is a language problem, there are Wikipedias in many languages. Feel free to look at the list of Wikipedias to see if there's one in a language you communicate easily in. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 11:17, 3 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Here's a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a subject that you are trying to create an article about, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to break the 3 important questions above. But changing your username is essential before an unblock can be considered.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 15:19, 21 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Comment: this is probably connected with Harsh Jain, originally deleted at AfD in 2005 and recreated several times and salted, and with blocked sock users HVJAIN (talk · contribs) and Delhi2010 (talk · contribs) - see SPI case and REFUND request. JohnCD (talk) 13:39, 3 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
