Speedy deletion of Ausenco edit

A tag has been placed on Ausenco, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Scjessey (talk) 19:28, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 20:31, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Spam in Ausenco Limited edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Ausenco Limited, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Ausenco Limited is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Ausenco Limited, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Newbie biting edit

Regarding your comment at Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Computing#Mouse_issues, please refrain from biting the newbies or making insulting or unhelpful remarks. Thanks. 86.133.55.169 (talk) 01:03, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I never 'bite newbies'. That comment was left as a joke by my brother. Altho i don't have a way to prove it.E smith2000 (talk) 16:23, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

testing of sig edit

Nice! If you want your color choice to "stick" you need the '#' in the color declaration (I added it in your sig below). On the other hand, your sig looks good in standard link blue (I didn't realize it *was* standard until I started writing this comment); it seems to 'fit' the wave effect. – 74  23:05, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Help Desk posting edit

Hi E, I noticed a post you made on the help desk. (on CPU testing proggie). Do you have experience writing a bootable partition to a thumb drive? I'd like to make one of my thumb drives bootable (preferably using an ERD .iso or BartPE.iso file) but could be convinced to use Ubuntu if need be. I've done some reading on the web about it, but most of the sites I've seen make it appear to be more difficult than it should be. I'm looking for a point by point type of thing to make a bootable thumb.

  • format thumb drive as FAT
  • download xyz.zip, and run on computer HD
  • insert thumb and run prog. abc.exe from xyz.zip
  • copy folder q to thumb.

something easy to follow ... ya know what I mean?

If you have experience in this field, and could help, I'd be more than happy to repay the favor in kind - maybe put some work into an article of your choice or something? ... Thanks, Ched. — Ched (talk) 11:06, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi there, the only experience i have with making a thumb drive bootable is installing a OS directly on it from a computer that does not have a hard drive. It has worked very well. i have a 4 gig drive with a fully updated virsion of ubuntu 8.10 with some windows repair utilities on it. So far the only problem with it that i have come across is if i load a driver for medium to high end video card, it will give me problems when i move to another computer. So to Avoid that i simply use generic drivers. I hope this helped. – Elliott  17:47, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

FYI edit

I've made this edit in order to properly alpha locate you at Wikipedia:RD regulars. I also made this edit when I realized that your username started with an uppercase "E". Please let me know if you prefer your username shown on your userpage to begin with a lowercase "e" as there is a fix for that. -hydnjo talk 19:56, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

SineBot edit

Thanks for the tip, I did know but {{NoAutosign}} will cause SineBot to stop signing my comments altogether, which may be seen as disruptive by some editors as they would have to check the history to see who the poster was - and I recall at least one Ip being blocked for exactly this recently. It seems there is not a way to have SineBot sign comments and not post the reminder message.

This is true. But SineBot is here to sign the posts of people who 'forget' to sign their posts, you can sign it your self by adding ~~~~ to the end of your message. That will tell wiki's html compiler to sign it for you.– Elliott(Talk|Cont)  20:23, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
lol, I am aware of this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.43.88.87 (talk) 20:38, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Alternatively you can simply leave SineBot's tag on your talk page, as i did. The bot wont keep reposting it, it will simply notice that it has already place that tag there and then leave you alone.– Elliott(Talk|Cont)  20:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, tried it here and it didn't work. Also note User talk:193.115.175.247 who has 21 messages from SineBot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.43.88.87 (talk) 20:48, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Public Enemy edit

It's unclear to me why you reverted my change to the "Public Enemy" article. The change I made helped the article by removing recent vandalism. Should I expect that changes I make that improve articles will be instantly reverted? (note, the initial unsigned change was actually mine) Mrowat (talk) 07:02, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I do apologize, I only read it very quickly and noticed a lot of missing text, i also apologize for forgetting to place a tag on your talk page.– Elliott(Talk|Cont)  07:06, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wireless Issue edit

Hi Elliott,

Sorry for the late reply. The customer waited until yesterday to call me back. I just got back from his house. I started reconfiguring the network connections on his computer, but after a couple of hours, he had me leave. I disabled DHCP on the router and ICS on the desktop. His wired connection had been assigned a static IP address, so I tried setting the IP address in his router to the IP address for the wired connection in the desktop. Then I set the laptop to use a static IP assigned by the router with the router as the default gateway. Nothing I tried seemed to work, though, and he never gives me enough time to finish. I think you had the right idea, though, and if I had got the implementation right, I'm sure it would have worked. I recommended that he purchase a wireless repeater before I left, but he said he'd try to get the current setup to work. I was wrong about the cable being crossover, by the way. The yellow color of the cable threw me off.

Well, I'm glad I probably won't have to deal with it anymore. It is probably out of my league, anyway. Thanks for your suggestions, though. I really appreciate it!

Regards,

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Pastespecial.jpeg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Pastespecial.jpeg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 13:57, 6 March 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 13:57, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:93.2 KRLT.gif edit

Thanks for uploading File:93.2 KRLT.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions. If you have a question, place a {{helpme}} template, along with your question, beneath this message.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
