Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Lestat de Lioncourt, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. -- Doniago (talk) 19:21, 26 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

EMail

edit

Drknave--I got your email, and figured its better to answer here so that everyone can see it. First, your email shows that you misunderstand how Wikipedia works a bit. You say that you don't want anyone other than yourself to make anything except minor changes, because of how you prefer the article to be. Wikipedia, however, is a collaboratively edited encyclopedia--no one can claim ownership over a specific article. Every time you edit, you should see a note at the bottom that says that you are licensing your content CC-BY-SA, and that anyone can edit change, delete, or copy the information. If you do not wish to abide by those terms, you should find stick to editing just your band's own website/social media sites, as those are probably more within your control.

Second, you say that all of the information is correct, which you know, because you're in the band. Unfortunately, Wikipedia does not allow information to be included simply because one person "knows it" to be true. Rather, information must be verifiable--that is, an independent reader must be able to find the information somewhere else in a reliable source (i.e., a newspaper, a journal article, a high quality magazine, etc.). If the information has not been published elsewhere, it cannot be included. To some extent, we may be able to use information that is written on the band's website. However, since that website is obviously not independent (i.e.,not fact checked by an independent editorial board), we have to be very careful about using such information; it's a complicated issue...but we could probably use your site to verify something like "LeStat formed in Month, Date..." But we could not use it to verify something like "The second album sold more than N copies" or "They formed a close working relationship with Y"; basically, only factual information only about the band, not others.

On your specific questions in the second email: Yes, the rule regarding websites is WP:EL; in this case, the specific section called WP:ELOFFICIAL. It's certainly true that a lot of pages have too many links, but that's a problem with those pages that should be corrected. Well, there are a few cases where we have multiple links; the main reason we would do that is if the sites were not prominently linked on your webpage; since it sounds like they are, that should be enough. On the "interesting facts", you could incorporate said facts into the history section, if they are verified and they are important enough for inclusion. Remember, the goal is not to make an "interesting" page with fun information about the band, but merely to give an encyclopedic overview of their career. That, by the way, is the other problem with the History section--it's quite excessive. So, you'll need to add more citations to verify the rest of the information, and even if all of that info can be cited, it's probably too long anyway. But I'll worry about that later.

Finally...since you have admitted to being a part of the band, I do have to tell you that, as a general rule, we discourage people from editing articles that they have a conflict of interest with; you can see info at WP:COI. You definitely can edit, but the problem is that we know it's really hard to write WP:NPOV], not use original research, and in general, follow our editing policies. We usually recommend that people with COI make suggestions on the article talk page first, and let other interested editors make the changes.

I'm going to re-add some of the tags I added before, as they need to remain until the problem is solved, but I doubt I'll have time to really aggressively modify the article for a week or more. At any time, feel free to ask questions; you can do that either on the article's talk page, or on my talk page. Qwyrxian (talk) 01:30, 13 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Lestat Current Group Members 2012.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Lestat Current Group Members 2012.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.lestatmusic.com/gallery/this-is-now/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 18:05, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Grave Desires

edit

The article Grave Desires has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable album with a single reference to the bands site. No independent refs.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
