Speedy deletion nomination of User:Donlaw315

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Donlaw315, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. WuhWuzDat 19:05, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I created an article about a canadian company that is a leader in environmental stewardship with a green roof implementation and has launched an free and innovation Canadian community maps program - the first of it'd kind. As far as I can tell it conforms to a legitimate article about a commercial entity. There is no promotion intended and only one link to the company itself in the info section. 18 citations from reliable sources are included. Please advise on how to proceed. (I have moved your message down because it is easiest to keep track of talk pages if new additions are made at the bottom}
Your article seems to me OK and I have moved it into the main encyclopedia at ESRI Canada. I think the reason why it was tagged as an advertisement is that you created it in your user page - this is a common tactic of spammers seeking to evade the scrutiny given to new articles. Although it is not as clearly explained as it could be, user pages (of the form User:Donlaw315) are intended for the individual volunteers who are here to build the encyclopedia to say a little about themselves, if they wish, to help communication within the project. They are not for any extended content not connected with Wikipedia. They are different from user sub-pages, with names like User:Donlaw315/Draft, which could indeed be used for preparing articles though, again, they are not for long-term storage of material like rejected articles. WP:User pages explains it all. Anyway, your article is now launched. Welcome to the rather complex world of Wikipedia! JohnCD (talk) 20:44, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:ESRI Canada Logo blacktext lightbackground.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 04:33, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
