File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Kmiec_takes_oath_(2009).jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 00:16, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Douglas Kmiec (2009).jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 22:45, 15 October 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Geniac (talk) 22:45, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Image sources

edit

You'll need to provide the sources of any images you upload so their copyright status can be verified. I have tagged File:Kmiec takes oath (2009).jpg and File:Douglas Kmiec (2009).jpg for deletion for this reason. --Geniac (talk) 02:59, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The image source is the same for both: the U.S. Department of State; each photograph was generated by a USG employee (M. Stewart) for public purpose and is in the public domain and free to use; in one case, the Douglas Kmiec (2009).jpg is the official photo taken on August 30, 2009; in the second case, Kmiec takes oath (2009).jpg, as official photo of the public swearing in by a U.S. Supreme Court Justice of a U.S. Ambassador; this photo as well is in the public domain and free to use.

In light of the above information specifying source and copyright, I have removed the tag from the August 30 photo, but on review see the responsibility for tag removal is given to an administrator, and so I have left it noted on the September 2 photo, pending I assume review of the copyright disclosure above. Thank you. (DWK)

Thank you for that information; I have added/adjusted the tags on those two images accordingly. --Geniac (talk) 00:07, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Better source request for File:Very_Reverend_David_O'Connell_and_Douglas_Kmiec_(2009).jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Very_Reverend_David_O'Connell_and_Douglas_Kmiec_(2009).jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 06:45, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
