Alt account(?)

Hello! I’ve just blocked Datguy (alt acct) (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) as a suspected impersonation attempt - I’m assuming this isn’t actually your alt? Thanks! firefly ( t · c ) 09:31, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

@Firefly your assumption is correct, ta. DatGuyTalkContribs 09:36, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Kajal1985 srivastav

Hi DatGuy , Just now I checked. you have check this SPI case. Check another user also.

It is suspected that this user also belongs to this group.Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kajal1985 srivastav ( Username similar Marjina1972 , Same Draft [1] , Same Page Moved [2] - [3] , Overlap [4] )

> I apologize for Posting the Diff on your Talk page PravinGanechari (talk) 09:43, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

@PravinGanechari unfortunately I'm on mobile currently and unable to perform the due diligence required before blocking. DatGuyTalkContribs 09:51, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Continued IP disruption on Nordic model

Hello DatGuy, you recently protected this article, but since the protection expired the same edits have continued to be made by almost certainly the same person who keeps adding grammatically incorrect text (seemingly an LTA that is also active on other articles, particularly Nordic related religion). Would it be possible for you to protect the article for a longer period? The constantly differing IP's and persistence unfortunately makes this an issue that is difficult to deal with through blocks of the IP's. TylerBurden (talk) 13:58, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Protected for three months. DatGuyTalkContribs 14:08, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
Appreciate it! TylerBurden (talk) 14:16, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Nithya.rahul

Hi Sir , One more Report

All the images on Commons are uploaded by Sayali.zone ( [5]) but it has been added by Nithya.rahul ( [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] ) on Wikipedia. Important thing Sayali has just joined Wikipedia 3 hours ago

> I apologize for Posting the Diff on your Talk page PravinGanechari (talk) 14:57, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

@PravinGanechari: this is why you were barred from filing SPI cases. You ignored my recommendation to stay away from sockpuppetry while still not being familiar enough with Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. Having multiple accounts by itself isn't socking. Misusing them is. I'm now telling you to henceforth avoid all sockpuppetry related matters on Wikipedia until you successfully appeal at WT:SPI/C. DatGuyTalkContribs 15:16, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Yes sir I have tried there. And one more thing Sir Sockpuppet / multiple accounts Don't make false accusations. If you want, block me and leave the access to the Talk page for me, I will give information there. PravinGanechari (talk) 15:59, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

AIV report you declined

Were you responding to the right report when you declined this one? When I looked at it, all the edits had been reverted and the editor had been warned three times for removing sourced content. After reviewing the filter log, I saw further attempts to do this and two warnings, so I have blocked them for 24 hours even though they didn't edit again after this morning North American EST. Daniel Case (talk) 17:45, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

@Daniel Case: I saw that some of the edits removed unsourced content and that the filter hits were before the {{Uw-blanking3}}. I contemplated blocking them, but considering all their edits were in a span of ten minutes and they didn't edit for 1h30m, I added the two pages to my watchlist in case they returned but let them off without a block. Pull this user's talk page access

Hello, will you please revoke User:TinyAndo10's TPA? He is continuing to deliberately waste our time by insulting us and calling us communists. Thanks, Magnatyrannus (talk | contribs) 02:17, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

@Magnatyrannus: I see you do this often - there's no need to argue with blocked users on their talk pages. Once they're blocked, leave them alone. Let them talk to themselves if they'd like. DatGuyTalkContribs 08:54, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

SPI patrolling

Hi. I saw your block here. First and foremost, thanks for getting involved as an SPI patrolling admin. We need all the help we can get (and congrats on your new mop). If you don't already have it, you should install User:GeneralNotability/spihelper.js, which makes everything to do with SPI a lot easier. Once you handle an admin request, if there's nothing else left to do in the case, you should change the state to "closed". The spihelper script makes it easy to do that. And thanks again for diving into SPI. -- RoySmith (talk) 13:57, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Echoing RoySmith above. Thanks for the great work! Mz7 (talk) 01:28, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Ping :)

Hi DatGuy, I have created Wikipedia:Edit_filter_noticeboard#Filter_1216 without looking at the history of the filter. As it's one edited solely by you, I figured I should notify you about the discussion. Best regards, ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:44, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

More disruptive edits on Vietnam war battle pages.

On October 9th, I requested page protection on Vietnam War casualties due to disruptive editing by a user from multiple IP ranges. You ultimately banned one of the ranges 2001:EE0:4A60:0:0:0:0:0/46 (talk · contribs) for two months. However, this user has returned to make the same disruptive edits in recent days from different IP ranges they have previously edited from. The pages affected are Easter Offensive and Battle of Khe Sanh. Maybe increasing page protection on these pages, Vietnam War casualties, and other affected pages could also mitigate this disruptive editing if they choose to edit from a new range. Karsdorp85 (talk) 09:08, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Seems to have been taken care of, I'll keep an eye on it. DatGuyTalkContribs 20:52, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello I was sent to you by by “Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents“ in the recent admins list for questions because I have some

If I am having a consensus dispute in a talk page that can’t reach consensus based on wp:FRINGE, where can I go to appeal it? I found this noticeboard wp:FTN but it doesn’t state the people handling it are admins, is there a place I can go to dispute whether something is fringe to admins as I believe a page is being poorly balanced due to its controversy? Bobisland (talk) 12:06, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

@Bobisland: WP:FTN is indeed the perfect place for this. Wikipedia administrators aren't the only ones who can conclude a discussion. If consensus is reached but other people continuously violate that consensus, then an administrator can use their tools to help enforce it. DatGuyTalkContribs 12:17, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Do users in the fringe noticeboard have administrative powers to conclude consensus based on rules regardless if users disagree? If not is there no place to dispute balance/neutrality of an article to administrators due to controversial pages being marginalized by bias users in talk pages leading to a lack of consensus about its balance/neutrality? Users in the talk page I’m in have already stated they won’t reach consensus so having other user agree with me still won’t reach consensus Bobisland (talk) 12:36, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Any non-admins in the fringe noticeboard can always ask upon administrators to help enforce a consensus, and any administrator will not hesitate to help out. DatGuyTalkContribs 12:39, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Ok so to force consensus based on rules there is no noticeboard and users individually ask administrators? Or is it only special users in the noticeboards that can ask administrators? Bobisland (talk) 12:48, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Everyone can ask an administrator for help. DatGuyTalkContribs 12:48, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Can you help reach consensus on a fringe noticeboard?

I posted a dispute on the fringe theory noticeboard and would like the input of an administrator as the talk page isn’t reaching consensus on what’s fringe, the link is here the link, I think administrator input is necessary as the Wikipedia page is controversial Bobisland (talk) 13:36, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

Image fix?

Anyone watching this page able to fix File:Portland Immigrant Statue.jpg? Thanks for any help in advance. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:55, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

@JJMC89: I think you may have helped with this previously. Are you available to assist again? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:32, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

I've tried before, but I'll try adding a mechanism that checks MediaWiki's provided resolution. DatGuyTalkContribs 08:24, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

Is there something I should be doing so this isn't an issue?
---Another Believer (Talk) 13:48, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
@Another Believer the issue is generally that the image's metadata says its width/height is a certain value while in reality the values are flipped/the image is rotated. This is why it happens to many images by a single uploader. DatGuyTalkContribs 19:04, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
@DatGuy Thanks for helping me understand. I think I will continue to upload images as I know how and just hope these get corrected over time. I'll stop logging them here since it sounds like an issue has been identified. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:11, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
@Another Believer: I've fixed all of the listed files. @DatGuy: There should be an indication in the metadata that the image is rotated - this is automatically detected when I open them in GIMP. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:55, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
@JJMC89: Thanks so much for your help! Others include File:Night Sail by Louise Nevelson.jpg, File:Statue of Elgin Baylor, Los Angeles.jpg, File:Statue of Chick Hearn, Los Angeles.jpg, File:Statue of Bob Miller, Los Angeles.jpg, and File:Statue of Luc Robitaille, Los Angeles.jpg, if you're able to fix a few more recent uploads. Much appreciated! ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:11, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

I've attempted a fix. DatGuyTalkContribs 18:14, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

@DatGuy and JJMC89: Thanks. I noticed File:Statue of the Marquis de Lafayette (Los Angeles).jpg did something funny, too. ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:32, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
@Another Believer: Well, it got the dimensions correct that time, but not the rotation. Manually fixed. — JJMC89(T·C) 03:45, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

@DatGuy and JJMC89: Are either of you able to tell why the image of tacos at Rancho Bravo Tacos is warped? All I did at Commons was request a bot rotation. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:38, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

@Another Believer: It looks OK to me. That can happen when new versions of images are uploaded due to caching though. You can try purging or null editing the page to fix it. — JJMC89(T·C) 00:21, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:22, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
