How do I contact a contributor for more details re an article

edit

Please help me with... There is an entry in the article John Kennedy, 7th Earl of Cassilis which refers to "William Kennedy, Master of Cassilis (b.1668)". There is no reference given for this person which suggests it is incorrect but it appears to refer to a person I am researching . How can I contact the author for more information?DAIF25 (talk) 08:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC) DAIF25 (talk) 08:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

After doing a bit of searching through the article's history, I've found that it was added to the article in this edit in 2016 by Jamescassilis. That edit was Jamescassilis' only edit to Wikipedia, and it looks like someone else has already tried to ask them on their talk page (which would usually be my recommendation for you too!) for the source of their information, but no reply has been forthcoming. You're welcome to try to leave them another message, but I suspect you may not get an answer.
I'm tempted to remove that line from the article as unsourced, although it's probably worth looking at the two cited sources in that article to catch anything else that's unsourced too. stwalkerster (sock | talk) 09:31, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that and sorry for bothering you with something relatively simple but your website is a bit daunting to newcomers. However I'm learning. I'll follow up on your recommendations DAIF25 (talk) 18:55, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
