Roman numeral reverts edit

Regarding these three reverts: [1] [2] [3]...was there any particular reason you object to the changes? They were made to comply with the new MOS:ROMANNUM. Thanks, Beland (talk) 18:28, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for getting to me, I did revert those because they do not comply with WP:ROMAJI, which states that the Hepburn romanization should be used on Wikipedia for Japanese transliterations. There is no letter "é" in this method and these numerals are the one used by the original japanese titles which can be found respectively here, here and here Custardbandlers (talk) 22:32, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
When copying a quote or title from a cited work, per MOS:CONFORM we convert it to Wikipedia style rather than keeping the original typography exactly, so I think MOS:ROMANNUM would apply here regardless of the language. WP:ROMAJI says an exception to using modified Hepburn romanization is when there is an English name or romanization in common use. It appears from the title and contents of the article Pokémon that "Pokémon" is what English Wikipedia prefers. -- Beland (talk) 23:53, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I would have agreed with you if the concerned text was in English, I don't see how it is correct to change the original Japanese symbols to the one used in English, the table is showcasing the original title, his transliteration using the Latin script and his english translation which correctly uses the Basic Latin for Roman numerals. I'd like to see where was this discussed and how exactly does it apply to other languages. As for the romanization of Pokemon, the exception concerns the anglicized names we use in the articles, for example we write Tokyo without the macrons but his Hepburn romanization is still mentioned as Tōkyō with the macrons, same for Pokémon, his Hepburn romanization is mentioned in the footnote. That's how things are also presented in Template:Episode list#Non-English_titles. Custardbandlers (talk) 18:34, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
The RFC is at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Mathematics#Roman Numerals RFC, preceded on that page by a very long discussion. Roman numerals can be written in horizontal Japanese using the ASCII Latin letters, as they can in any horizontal language. I've applied the rule to all languages, and other than filenames, discussion of the characters themselves, and recent additions, I think these are now the only articles on English Wikipedia that are still using non-ASCII Roman numerals. As for Pokémon, that looks like an error to me, but I'll ask for clarification on Template talk:Episode list. -- Beland (talk) 04:32, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the link, that was interesting to read, I understand now why would it matter to change them, I've put them back on the Pokemon page, as for the transliteration, I saw your question on the template talk page, Juhachi answered you and that's exactly what I was trying to say. You can also see on WP:ROMAJI that they still mentioned the hepburn romanization for some english, french and chinese words (Thunderbird, homard, zha cai).
