Hello, I'm Liu1126. I noticed that in this edit to Gender star, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Liu1126 (talk) 22:58, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Liu1126!

I am not quite sure, why this happened. I just wanted to add some sentences about the latest developments in Germany. I am working as a translator into German in the UK, and I am often asked by clients, what the current status is, and why wikipedia still doesn't mirror the prohibition of the gender star and the word breaking colon in Germany in the last two years.

I would be very helpful, if you could help me to find the right form for these additions. I am an active writer for the german wikipedia and I am used that a first comment has immediate changes and additions always. Since there is still a discussion about genderizing in Germany, there will be enough people who try to ignore the public discussion about this. But the prohition already exists in two federal states, and there will be be soon more states who prohibit it. So readers of the english wikipedia should know and have a chance to follow the discussion.

Please excuse the trouble I caused, and please help! Curnait — Preceding unsigned comment added by Curnait (talkcontribs) 23:07, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Liu1126!

I sent the same text to my costumers in London (who asked me about that) and have to leave my office now. I hope that you can restore my additions too. If not, I will send them to you tomorrow again.

Kind regards Thomas — Preceding unsigned comment added by Curnait (talkcontribs) 23:16, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Curnait. Like I said in my comment above, you have not adequately explained why you removed the content that was originally on the page and replaced it with your writing. The existing content was adequately sourced, and I don't see why it cannot coexist with your proposed additions. You should've just added your information in a new section.
Additionally, your writing was not cited in the correct format. References should be added inline using reference templates like Template:Cite web or Template:Cite news, whereas you added your references as external links, the use of which is rather restricted on enwiki. More information can be found at MOS:CITE (or the simpler version WP:REFBEGIN) and the documentation pages of these templates.
Do reach out if you have any more questions. If you want to draw the attention of a specific editor, you should use Template:Ping (by placing {{ping|[name of editor here]}}). I did not watch this user page or follow this thread, so it was only by chance that I found out you tried to reply to me. You should also sign your comments using ~~~~ instead of manually, as this allows for better talk page formatting. Liu1126 (talk) 23:46, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
