Wikipedia accounts must be for individuals only, who are personally responsible for them. Usernames that seem to represent groups or organizations are not permitted. Also, Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion of any kind. Even if you are not employed by the company, your intent is clearly promotional: praising a "comfortable and spacious purpose-built visitor centre", discussing how "the new centre is a fantastic addition to Barlborough" and "highlighting Bolsover towns growth" is not the sort of thing an encyclopedia is for. There are plenty of websites that allow that kind of thing, but Wikipedia is not one of them. JohnCD (talk) 17:59, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Apologies, I think there has been a misunderstanding with regards to the external links being put on the Bolsover Cruise Club page, it was presumed that all external links containing the name Bolsover Cruise Club should be put on. This will be removed and only the factual information from sources such as newspapers and Bolsover government website will be added.

This page is not for promotional purposes but is an attempt to inform people what cruise clubs do and represent the Bolsover area, as I had difficulty finding this information elsewhere when was doing research, so decided to add it myself.

Many apologies for the mix up.

Hi, as the blocking admin, I cannot deal with this request. However, please note that you need to replace "Your proposed new username" with a desired username that complies with our username policy. Dabomb87 (talk) 17:11, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi not sure I understand really, as I dont work for the company but want to explain their modern facilities but gave background info on the company as thought that was what others had on... i have seen there are other cruise companies on wikipedia, would we be ok to have a username as 'Bolsover Cruise Club Centre' discussing how the new centre is a fantastic addition to Barlborough and highlighting Bolsover towns growth. Thankyou for your response, after reseraching the website i noticed a 'Gills Cruise Centre' are on wikipedia, stating they are a leading cruise specialist etc, I do not believe this would be found in an encyclopedia either, so am unsure why I cannot say that the building is spacious etc it has been reported in a newspaper. I would like to write about Bolsover Cruise Club for personal use and request to do so again, only using factual information, external links from newspapers etc, which can be checked before adding to the site. This topic is of great personal interest to me and would be greatful if you would reconsider.

This is the revised words I would put on the page, please see if this is suitable:

Company History

Founded by A. L. Wilson, the late father of Derek Wilson, in the 1960's as a joint travel and estate agency, Bolsover Cruise Club was a local travel agent that serviced the needs of Bolsover and the surrounding villages.

In the late 1970’s current Principals Derek, Michael and Audrey Wilson, and Julie Straw took over. Initially focus centred on late offer type holidays, but the company recognised the opportunities in the cruise market and Bolsover Cruise Club began to distance itself from the standard package holiday and, instead, rapidly gained a reputation as a leading name in the UK cruise industry.

By the late 1980's, Bolsover Cruise Club had become the number one individual agent for P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises; they have held this accolade continuously now for 24 years. The company expanded to support all major cruise lines during the early part of the 1990's, ultimately evolving into a 'cruise only' travel agent and necessitating the construction of 'The Cruise Centre' at Barlborough Links, three miles north of the original Bolsover site. The completion of that project, in October 1998, represented a pivotal moment in the company’s history and marked the first purpose-built Cruise Reservation Centre of its type in the UK.

Unprecedented levels of progress required two major extensions to the building in later years - but it eventually became clear they had outgrown the first Cruise Centre and in March 2005 the company moved into even larger premises. Three times the size of its predecessor, the brand new Cruise Centre accommodates up to 60 Cruise Sales Consultants and incorporates an in-house Cruise Bureau to cater for those members who prefer to book in person; the first such facility in Britain.

Awards

The title of Top UK Independent Agent for P&O Cruises & Princess Cruises has been awarded to Bolsover Cruise Club for 24 consecutive years, they were also awarded Travel Weekly 'Mystery Shopper Commendation' February 2010 winner.

Cruise Holidays

Bolsover Cruise Club provides cruise ship holidays with a wide selection of cruise lines including P&O Cruises, Cunard Line, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises.

They also specialise in the luxury market, providing luxurious and unique travel experiences with operators including Crystal Cruises, MV Hebridean Princess, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn, Silversea and Swan Hellenic Discovery Cruises.

As I am sure you can see this is important to me and is not for promotional purposes, I was just not aware of what could or could not be put on wikipedia, as most of the info I used was taken from the company's website it was obviously very biased and self-promoting, apologies for that, I have now made the information factual and neutral and have references to newspapers etc.

Bolsover Cruise Club (talk) 09:41, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

It still reads like a promotional piece: "rapidly gained a reputation", "held this accolade", "luxurious and unique travel experiences". . . Mean as custard (talk) 09:48, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Here is the final version I have edited, as a citizen of Bolsover this is an important part of our history and in my opinion equally valid to Thomson holidays, Virgin etc but holds more historical value as is related to a particular area of Britain. This entry is not for promotional reasons and apologies that my writing is descriptive, find it hard to be factual... but have tried, please see below ....

Bolsover Cruise Club is an independent UK ‘cruise only’ specialist travel agent.

Company History

Founded by A. L. Wilson, the late father of Derek Wilson, in the 1960's as a joint travel and estate agency, Bolsover Cruise Club was a local travel agent that serviced the needs of Bolsover and the surrounding villages.

Request reason:

the information above is factual, non promotional, from reliable sources, not for the purpose of a company and is similar to other entries on similar companies.... therefore I think this would be of interest to many people and should be added to the site please

Decline reason:

The issue isn't the edits, per se - though I have no opinion on whether or not they should be in the article. Our policies do not permit accounts to be operated on behalf of a group of any type. Your account name, Bolsover Cruise Club, implies that any edit you make was ordered, sanctioned, or requested by the club itself, which creates an improper conflict of interest. Additionally, it is impossible to judge which individual is actually editing, and edits are attributed to individuals. I appreciate your interest in improving the article, but you need to sort out your username first - and, on that point, I must decline your unblock request. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 19:51, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • As I declined your last request, protocol requires that I leave this for another admin, but I strongly advise you to amend it: you have evidently not read the advice above, which explains that a username which is that of a group or company is not permitted and such usernames will be blocked. Any unblock request must therefore propose a new username which complies with that policy; unblock will be for the purpose of making a username change request at WP:CHU. I will give you more advice about your article as soon as I have time, but that may not be until tomorrow. Short comment: it still uses peacock terms like "luxurious and unique travel experiences," and it does not show the "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" required to establish notability. JohnCD (talk) 18:23, 18 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for your advice, I have read the above advice but fail to see what other name could be used for this entry and do not understand why as I said previously Gills Cruise Centre, Thomson Holidays and Virgin etc can be listed as company names but this cannot!? As I said it is not for promotional terms but most information on this company is from their website so will always use the so called 'peacock' terms. I have edited and amended the piece several times to match the requirements I was given ... factual, non- promotional etc as I have done.

Bolsover Cruise Club (talk) 09:04, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Let's back up - there are two ways in which "Bolsover Cruise Club" can exist as a name. One is an article - Bolsover Cruise Club - that describes, in a neutral fashion backed by multiple reliable sources, what exactly the Bolsover Cruise Club is. The second is this username, which identifies a particular individual who edits the encyclopedia. The first, the article, is fine if the Club can be shown to be notable. The second, the username, is not, for the reasons I noted above. The examples of other organizations are, near as I can tell, articles. As long as the subject is notable, there is no restriction on having such articles, or in titling them as they are titled. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 13:07, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for this advice, it was very clear.... therefore I apologise for the misunderstanding as I entered the username of the company I was writing about, is it possible to change the username to just my name and write thae article I originally intended to write about Bolsover Cruise Club please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bolsover Cruise Club (talkcontribs) 12:24, 24 January 2011

Yes. What you should do is: make another unblock request giving a new, individual username you wish to change to. You will be unblocked to allow you to make a request at WP:CHU - click on "Simple" at the bottom of that page. Then:

Thanks for getting back to me I propose that the username be crociera01 if possible I am currently drafting another article that I am confident complies with Wikipedias policies..... I will also ask for feedback as you advised! Thank you for your patience and advice. Bolsover Cruise Club (talk)

Hi I was told over a week ago to request to change the username as I have done and to be unblocked, can someone assist me in why this has not happened. Thanks Bolsover Cruise Club (talk)

Done - unblocked to change username

edit

Sorry about that - I have unblocked you to request a change of username. You do that by going to WP:CHU and clicking on "Simple" towards the bottom of the page. JohnCD (talk) 13:53, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

New question

edit

can I just ask how do I set up an article for what i want to write about, I dont want to set up a user page for myself ... bit confused ... any advice would be great, thanks! Crociera01 (talk)

It makes things much simpler if you post new messages at the bottom of a talk page, so that it is not necessary to hunt about for them. I have moved this one down. If you are starting a new topic on a talk page, an easy way to do that is to click "New section" at the top of the page: that gives you a form with a space for a header, and puts the result at the bottom of the page for you.
To start a new draft article in your user space, see Help:Userspace draft (as I told you a little further up this page); or, in this case, simply click on the redlink User:Crociera01/Bolsover Cruise Club. Then follow the advice in the bullet points I gave you above starting with "Yes, what you should do is... " JohnCD (talk) 12:26, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Feedback

edit

I've moved the article content which you put in the feedback request, into User:Crociera01/Bolsover Cruise Club.

Also, I have responded in Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2011 February 4#Bolsover Cruise Club.  Chzz  ►  14:45, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please can I have some advice, I have written my article on Bolsover Cruise Club. I want this to be a seperate article. I have asked for feedback and done all that was said but I dont understand how to make it aseperate article and not related to my user page. Does someone from wikipedia have to view it before it is published? Any advice would be gratefully received. Crociera01 (talk)

I have responded to your request for feedback posted 7 Feb. Your article is located at User:Crociera01/Bolsover Cruise Club. You can edit and perfect your draft there. When the article is done and you want it to be visible to regular users of Wikipedia, it can be moved. This is a simple process, but perhaps you would best ask someone to move it for you by posting a request to that effect on the Requests for Feedback page. Before you move it, you should definitely solicit more feedback regarding the general formatting and substance of the article. As it stands, there are small issues (unnecessary boldface in the first line, extra linefeeds, issues like that), medium issues (the references are not properly done as inline references), and large issues (is the subject notable and have your references actually established that quality). Perhaps take a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (layout) and Wikipedia:Citing sources, do your best to perk things up a bit, then ask for more feedback. Thank you for your patience.
