Photo of Adare

Hi there! Thanks for the addition of the photo Image:Adare.jpg to Adare. Just one thing, I wonder could you add the licensing conditions to the image page or else it may be deleted or not accepted in future versions of Wikipedia. If you took it yourself, possible options are the GFDL licence (add {{GFDL}} to the page), or releasing it into the public domain ({{PD}}). In the former case, your authorship is respected despite a freedom to copy/modify the image.

Regards, zoney talk 11:34, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Also the same for Image:Ring of Kerry.jpg, could you also add for that photo where specifically on the Ring of Kerry the view shown is? Thanks. zoney talk 11:40, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hi,

mmm I completely forgot :-) I'put the licensing conditions on all the pictures and I'll try to remember where I took the picture on the Ring of Kerry but this will be difficult ...

Matteo 12:58, 2004 Nov 1 (UTC)

Thanks! As regards the Ring of Kerry picture, do you remember whether it was taken on the north, west or south of the Iveragh peninsula? Perhaps Valentia Island? zoney talk 13:08, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I asked the others that were with me on this trip but I doubt that someone will remember (at the time I only wrote down Ring of Kerry).

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Arecibo message

Thanks for posting the explanation of the parts of the Arecibo message. I thought to colorize the bits in your contribution in order to correlate them to the colors in the image. I backed out of that until I have a chance to look at it more closely and make sure I get the right colors with the right parts. You can see my initial effort here. It might help if you could tell me which color each set of bits should be based on the image as shown. Thanks. -- Kbh3rd 20:34, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi I tryed to color them as you suggested but the results are not so visible for many colors (red is great but blue and white are not wonderful :-)
00000000000000000000000
11000011100011000011000

11010001100011000011010
11111011111011111011111
I could try to generate bitmaps as the original drawing (it should not be so difficult...) Matteo 22:28, 2005 Jan 7 (UTC)
I adjusted the original figure so that the pixels are square and split it up for the explanation. Matteo 00:14, 2005 Jan 8 (UTC)

Zürich to Zurich

Zürich has been nominated on Wikipedia:Requested moves for a page move to Zurich. Being a contributor to the previous vote you might like to express your opinion about this proposed move in the new vote on talk:Zürich. Philip Baird Shearer 09:17, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Pardon me, but...

You reverted my edit here [1] calling it vandalism. I think this was innapropriate. First, the only change was delinking the word punk, hardly vandalism done by anyone. Second, I explained my action in the edit summary: "(de linking punk, we have no article corresponding to that usage)." I came to the article because I was working to repair disambiguation links to the article punk. Bip should link to the specific article that corresponds to that usage of punk, since we don't have an article of this type it should either be a redlink or no link. --best, kevin ···Kzollman | Talk··· 23:12, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

Sorry I wanted to revert an older edit and due to my distraction I didn't notice it was old and already reverted.Matteo 13:56, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
No problem! I have removed the link again. --best, kevin ···Kzollman | Talk··· 17:44, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Why so few Wikipedians are engineers?

I am trying to understand why there are so few Wikipedians who are graduate engineers. Once I get a grasp on that, perhaps I may be able to formulate some ideas on how to attract more experienced engineers to become Wikipedians. It would be very helpful if you would respond to these a few questions:

  • Are you a university graduate engineer? yes
  • Please indicate in which of these engineering disciplines you obtained your degree:
    1. Computer science engineering
  • In what year did you obtain your degree? 1998
  • What attracted you to participate in Wikipedia?

If you would rather not answer these questions on your Talk page, then you may respond on my User talk:mbeychok page. Or you may respond to me via Wikipedia's email which I have enabled on my User:mbeychok page.

If you would rather not respond at all, that's fine also. Regards, - mbeychok 04:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

warning

Dear Corti,

On page User_talk:65.70.89.241 I see a "warning".

About what are you warning me ? How could I do better in the future?

--65.70.89.241 13:30, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh my ... Sorry I warned the wrong user. I removed some vandalism to IP Address and instead of warning User:64.109.2.202 I clicked on the wrong line. Sorry! Matteo 14:15, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Dog's Cock

Thank you for your message. You might like to have a look at Discussion:!, where I cite two sources for the exclamation mark being called "Dog's Cock" in journalist lingo. What might look like vandalism to the uneducated eye is a valid submission, which I expect you to put back up.

Hi, I saw the sources but I really don't think that such a slang should be put in the first sentence of the article. To do it just to have something vulgar at the beginning is bad taste. If a small minority of the speakers use it it could be mentioned in the article but not in the header as it was common practice. Matteo 14:25, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Number of harp strings

I'm looking at Kent Kennan Wheeler's orchestration book and I don't see how a standard harp can have 47 strings if it has the range listed in that book. I would expect a number of the form 7x + 2, where x is the number of complete octaves and the 2 is for the two independently tuned strings at the very bottom of the range. Anton Mravcek 15:12, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Anton, I found the entry in the harp article but I'm not an expert ... Matteo 12:06, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
If I may butt in: The Wheeler book gives the range as going from a low C-flat below the bass clef with 8ve, to a high G-sharp above the treble clef also with 8ve. So this means there are the sets of C to B strings (7 in each) plus four more that don't complete an octave. So the number we're looking for is 7x + 4, assuming the Wheeler book is correct.
