Talk:Scott Baio edit

This is in use on the Talk:Scott Baio page, but instead of linking to the talk page archives, it links to a long list of random Wikipedia articles. Can you fix it, and tell me what was wrong in the syntax that made it do that, please? 2001:BB6:4703:4A58:5081:C294:44B8:F581 (talk) 15:18, 15 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

GDPR edit

At User:ClueBot III/Master Detailed Indices/Talk:General Data Protection Regulation there's a long string of unrelated articles instead of links to archives (probably the same error as the section above) which makes the archive box at Talk:General Data Protection Regulation look really strange. 05:25, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

The archiveprefix= field is required for the template to work correctly. I've corrected it on the mentioned page. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 04:45, 21 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've manually cleared the list at above page and also User:ClueBot III/Indices/Talk:General Data Protection Regulation. --Salix alba (talk): 05:42, 21 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument edit

There's some confusion with automatic archiving of Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument. As far as I can see, there are the following archive pages:

Only the first archive page in that list is referenced by the archive index.

Apparently, there's some mistake with using the script, but I don't see it. Can someone more knowledgable than me please fix this? (In the mean time I have managed to only make the mess worse by moving Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument/Archives/ 2 to Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument/Archives/Archive 2, leaving a redirect from Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument/Archives/ 2 to Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument/Archives/Archive 2, and now ClueBot III has added archived content to Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument/Archives/ 2.) – Tea2min (talk) 06:20, 3 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Tea2min. I popped over to Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument and glanced at the source. Based on the instructions at User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis, the culprit is likely the bot not recognizing Unicode apostrophes. I would recommend not Unicoding the apostrophe, being as the plaintext apostrophe is part of their user name. Don't forget to fix the |index= parameter as well. I'm a little puzzled as to why the index parameter has been given so much data, but my experience isn't good enough to properly access it. Based on your experience, what might you suggest, Trialpears?
— CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 20:34, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for spotting that. I don't watch Cantor's diagonal argument/Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument anymore, and I'd rather not mess with those bot incantations myself, sorry. As to the index parameter, perhaps we should ask Sam Sailor who added the archiving in 2018.[1]Tea2min (talk) 20:59, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I see from the talk page history that there's now another archive page at Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument/Archives/ 3. —Tea2min (talk) 21:01, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Apparently I've mistook Cantor's diagonal argument as a user rather than an article. I'll go ahead and fix the archiving and existing archives in the near future (within a week), and post an update at Talk:Cantor's diagonal argument/Archive 3#Automatic archiving. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 22:24, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Archive box edit

Currently there is an option to add an custom coded archive box. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to use {{Archive}} when this parameter is used. Ping to cobi. --Trialpears (talk) 23:03, 24 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Uhh, are you sure {{Archive}} is the template you're looking for? That's for marking the top of an archive page, not for generating a navigation box on the original page, it seems. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 20:22, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, it's {{Archives}} I meant. --Trialpears (talk) 20:23, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Nowiki tags edit

Are the <nowiki> tags in the examples supposed to be displayed for users to directly copy–paste the parameters (redundancy)? — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 06:42, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

1st time user; did not archive Yapperbot's "Feedback request" edit

Please see this edit. For some reason, User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis did not archive Yapperbot's "Feedback request". Am I failing to do something correctly? Here is my code.

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis
| age=1440
| archiveprefix=User talk:Peaceray/archive/
| header={{talk archive|User talk:Peaceray}}{{User talk:Peaceray/Archive sidebar}}
| minkeepthreads=5
| minarchthreads=2
| format=Y
}}

The header parameter is also choking on the double templates, but I can live with that for now. Peaceray (talk) 05:22, 23 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Broken archive box at Talk:Madonna (album) edit

I closed the RM, moved the article, and now the March 2023 archive isn't showing in the archive box and I can't figure out how to fix it. Can someone help? Skarmory (talk • contribs) 00:20, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Skarmory: Its there now. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 20:35, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Huh, did ClueBot III need to run again or something? Well... the problem's at least fixed! Skarmory (talk • contribs) 21:19, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Skarmory: It only updates the archive index afaik, but that page isn't being transcluded onto the talk page. So, I'm assuming that the talk page needed a refreshing of the archive box, i.e., a WP:NULLEDIT to force an immediate one. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 21:35, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Feeling really dumb - any pointers? edit

My archive box code looks like this:

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis
| age=4320
| archiveprefix=User talk:FOARP/Archives/
| minkeepthreads=4
| minarchthreads=2
| format=Y/F
}}
{{Archives|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2021/August|Everything prior to August 2021]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2021/November|November 2021]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2021/December|December 2021]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/January|January 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/February|February 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/May|May 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/July|July 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/August|August 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/September|September 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/November|November 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2022/December|December 2022]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2023/January|January 2023]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2023/February|February 2023]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2023/May|May 2023]]
|*[[User talk:FOARP/Archives/2023/August|August 2023]]}}

But only the first archive is listed in the resulting archive list. I can't see what's wrong with it though - any pointers? FOARP (talk) 15:43, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

{{Archives}} takes just 1 positional argument if you intend to manually define the list. You'll need to replace the |* at the start of each line with just * to make it a normal bulleted list. Alternatively, some of the templates under {{Templates for archiving}} might be useful for doing such a thing automatically (E.g. {{Monthly archive list|root={{FULLPAGENAME}}/Archives|startyear=2021|monthformat=longname}} looks like it could be useful). Aidan9382 (talk) 15:58, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks Aidan! It works! FOARP (talk) 16:12, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nothing is wrong edit

The template instance at Talk:Nothing displays

Auto-archiving period: Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character ",". days

Which is weird, given that none of the input values contains this character. Paradoctor (talk) 16:03, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is an issue with {{Talk header}}, not this template. I've gone ahead and left a message at Template talk:Talk header § Broken case. Aidan9382 (talk) 17:11, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Paradoctor (talk) 18:30, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Paradoctor, thank you for raising this, and for the helpful report of exactly what was wrong. Thanks are due to Aidan9382 for following up and fixing this. Mathglot (talk) 17:26, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
