Re: A problem with this photo?? edit

Hi, Chuck! The image hasn't been deleted at all; on the contrary, somebody was nice enough to move it to Wikimedia Commons, where all Wikimedia projects can use it as opposed to only the English Wikipedia. Thanks for contributing high-quality photography! east.718 at 04:15, May 28, 2008

Haitian creole wikipedia edit

the entry for ht:Carlo Valtrain has been done; foot imported. We should move it to wikimedia.t won't change anything.

Pygmy hippos edit

Hi Chuck, I love your pygmy hippo photos! I noticed you released one pygmy hippo photo into the public domain. Did you want this photo: Image:Pygmy hippopotamus hungry.jpg to be in the public domain as well? These are really cool photos. I didn't know any conservancies in Kenya kept pygmy hippos--it's pretty far outside their natural range. Do you happen to know how many are there? --JayHenry (talk) 21:06, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the clarification. It's an easy fix, I just wanted to make sure that was your intention to release both. The images are both good to go now. I've looked at your other pictures and think they're great. It's difficult to find photos of animals outside of zoos. Thanks so much for these beautiful additions! --JayHenry (talk) 22:33, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ooh, I love those giraffe photos too! A tip for creating new articles: you'll want to make sure that you have some reliable sources when you create the article. For articles like you suggested, other editors will want to see information in newspaper articles or magazines or journals, probably. This can be tricky and even a bit frustrating. Generally, other editors will want to make sure the sources are completely independent. (Which means you can't use the Web sites of the organizations as the main source of information; otherwise, people could make up a Web site with fake information and then create a fake article!) Good luck and definitely let me know if there's anything I can help with. --JayHenry (talk) 23:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:Edna Adan Maternity Hospital edit

Hi & thanks for contacting me. Not to sound callous, but the hypothetical "pain" of the residents of Somaliland you mention is not really my concern. What is my concern is WP:NPOV, and to assert that Somaliland is an "independent country" as I've noticed you've repeatedly done across several pages (e.g. "Following the Somali Civil War the entire health infrastructure of Somaliland was effectively destroyed and there were few, if any, trained medical personnel remaining in the small country" => dif) unfortunately falls way short of that mark. License tagging for File:Edna-adan-lyndon-johnson.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Edna-adan-lyndon-johnson.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:10, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Files missing description details edit

Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

are missing a description and/or other details on their image description pages. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the images, and they will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions, please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Theo's Little Bot (error?) 01:09, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Question about a photograph edit

Hi Chuck, I'm considering using a photograph of yours, File:Edna graduating nurses.jpg, in our article on female genital mutilation. I just want to check that you're the author of the image, and the year it was taken, before I add it to the page. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 20:18, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Requests for comment/Middayexpress edit

How did you learn about this RfC? Dougweller (talk) 07:50, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Personal attacks, eg calling someone a nutjob, poison the editing atmosphere. And please don't tell me "she did it first", as I'm sure you know that is not an excuse. Dougweller (talk) 07:19, 1 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
The nutjob made me miserable by her barrage of personal attacks. I am no longer remotely interested in contributing to Wikipedia - neither with content nor by endeavoring to elevate the poisonous atmosphere of this place. Consider it a parting shot at somebody whom any impartial observer can see is pursuing her own agenda here; and doing it with no regard either for truth or decency. Logging out for the last time now.

File source problem with File:Edna adan egal lyndon johnson.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Edna adan egal lyndon johnson.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

File permission problem with File:Four bongo calves with nanny.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Four bongo calves with nanny.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
