Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Chris90909! Your additions to Surat Alley have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 12:39, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please don't copy material from elsewhere online edit

Hello. I am Diannaa and I am a Wikipedia administrator. Prose you find online is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the copyright policy of this website to do so. All prose must be written in your own words. The Wikipedia copyright policy and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policy. There's a simplified version of our copyright rules at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. Further copyright issues will result in you being blocked from editing. — Diannaa (talk) 12:59, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Diannaa, I hope I have now rectified this. I had no intention to infringe copyright at the time!! Apologies. Is that better? Chris90909 (talk) 13:15, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
No it is not. See the copyright reports: here, here. — Diannaa (talk) 13:20, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Those are the two most complete accounts of his life online. There is of course going to be copyright as they refer to the same organisations...the actual writing it different. I have cross referenced with other articles which would score highly on similarity simply due to the names of organisations which are being mentioned. The actual writing has been written by myself? Chris90909 (talk) 13:24, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is better, but still has far too much overlap. — Diannaa (talk) 13:24, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I can continue to amend it. Please do not block me from editing as this is a weeks reading and research. I will correct this. Chris90909 (talk) 13:25, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Did you read the last amendment or just revert it without reading? I changed it almost entirely Chris90909 (talk) 13:27, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Of course I read it. I am working on a copyright compliant version right now. Please stop immediately. — Diannaa (talk) 13:31, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
There was still a massive amount of copying, particularly from this source. — Diannaa (talk) 13:51, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your edit to Surat Alley has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. June 2023 edit

Hello, I'm Dormskirk. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, County Hall, London, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Dormskirk (talk) 09:40, 3 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for August 25 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Božo Janković, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Yugoslavia national under-23 football team. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
