Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Ulf Büntgen edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Ulf Büntgen, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.   Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.

I recommend you don't try to create new articles until you have read and understood the guidelines, particularly Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability. It's always best to start by making small edits to existing articles. Deb (talk) 14:05, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

You submitted the article in the form of a CV/resumé, intended to focus on the subject's qualifications and career achievements. As you will have noticed from the articles to which I referred you above, this is strongly discouraged. Please take the advice I gave you previously, and find something else to write about until you have some experience of the project. Deb (talk) 15:39, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your response. I still do not understand how this article is any different from Jan Esper, Christine Lane or Clive Oppenheimer; three close colleagues of Ulf Büntgen's with whom he works closely. They are just the same, don't you think? OK, I will take your advice and work on other articles. May I please have the content of the deleted article to practice on in my Sandbox? It would be a shame to start from scratch. Thank you! Chribue (talk) 15:54, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

It would be a shame if you don't take my advice, given above. I won't restore your content because it consists solely of a CV, not a balanced view of the subject's career or a clear statement of notability. I notice that he is credited with "the discovery and establishment of the Late Antique Little Ice Age", and yet the article on this topic does not mention him. Perhaps that's something you could work on. The article cited appears to have about twenty different authors, which suggests that he didn't make this discovery alone.
The fact that some of your husband's colleagues are the subject of articles is not a reason for you to be able to create an article promoting him. I am looking at those articles, one of which is also structured as a CV and may well end up being deleted. In the meantime, please read Wikipedia:Other stuff exists to see why this is not a good argument. Also, please read WP:NOTHERE - the first point describes what you currently appear to be doing. Again: thank you very much for your concise clarifications! I can now see that you delved into the subject and took the time to do some research on Ulf's work. Yes, we will work on the LALIA article. He was indeed the discoverer of this phenomenon, as you can see by the fact that his name is the first one in the list of names of the main publication; meaning he is the lead author. But I realize that this is not enough to clarify that he is the main person. I will take your advice for sure! I was just wondering if the article can be restored to my sandbox so I don't have to start from scratch? Thanks again for your help and input!--Chribue (talk) 17:56, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
