Request for edit summary

edit

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:25, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nobel prize at the top of the infobox

edit

This is a copy of the reasons for not having the icon that I left at Talk:Al Gore#Nobel prize icon at top of box.

"Until a few days ago I'd never seen the icon placed in a infobox like that. First of all it's distracting as it, along with his picture, is the first thing you see when the page opens. Next it's useless. Not everybody will know what the icon signifies, and even if they do, it doesn't link to Nobel Peace Prize, so it's not informing anyone of anything. It also overemphasises the award. It says to me that Al Gore (and the others I saw it on) is notable because he won a Nobel prize but in truth he won the prize because he did something notable. Why not add icons for his other awards as well, what about his Emmy Award.? Finally adding things like that will get out of hand. Look at Jimmy Carter, he has a Nobel Prize as well but why not add the seal of Georgia and the Presidential seal aren't they important? If it's in the box then it should be further down with a list so that the award can be linked to."

I hope that explains why I remove them, and for an example of how the boxes would look with other awards included see, User:CambridgeBayWeather/Sandbox. Of course not all the awards can be shown as some have no images and others like the Grammy Award are fairuse images. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CambridgeBayWeather (talkcontribs) 07:29, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
