Hi Everyone, My name is Barrett Dylan Brown. I am a writer, student, lower-tier member of the digirati, journalist, technological theorist, voracious reader, and I maintain a bare minimal Internet presence.

I still don't get enough computer time to actually deal with everything digital that I wish I could. Accept my apology. I am the same Barrett Brown who wrote "Information Flow on Campus: A Closer Look at Wikipedia" in 2600 Magazine, as well as three other articles to date. Special Thanks to user:Becksguy for reposting the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Becksguy/Information_Flow_on_Campus:_A_Closer_Look_at_Wikipedia article on Wikipedia! I've also been published in 3:AM Magazine, Because People Matter, and the Sacramento City Express.

Sadly the chances of an Ebony entry in Wiki seem dead for the time being. I don't have time to work on it, but the more time that passes, the more information about him I find available on the web. I don't know how many years until a blocked article can be brought up again, if ever, but the weakly used "Not Notable Enough" argument has to be crushed by the weight of evidence eventually. It's just a matter of time and patience. He was a legend. Bless his heart in heaven.

As of today I also have three more article published in 2600 Magazine, mostly during 2008. The results of that Wiki article currently, sadly, remain as they did five years ago. The corrupt admins won over my proposed article by wiki-lawyering and working together to power-broker votes (as well as clandestine "anonymous" edits through proxies, etc). Not to mention the fact that I just got too burned out to keep reading wiki files and writing just to defend this one article for the priciple of the thing. Thats one of the many reasons why I don't use Wiki much anymore. Ebony Anpu, Frater 137, and Charles Reese, (Three of his most used names) are all permanently blocked from use still.. Mysterious. They denied his picture because they didn't want people to recognize him. They attack to stop the article. But, why? What was Ebony hiding that makes him to important and so reviled? Knights Templar

Hiya, thanks for your message.  :) I didn't delete your info... I just moved it to another article, Knights Templar legends.[1] Right now there's a big push on the Knights Templar article to get it to an official Good Article status, which it means it's under the microscope. As such, we're trying to "polish up" the article as much as possible, which means that we're being very very careful about citations, and trying to limit it to the "core" info about the Knights. All other info is being moved out to the subarticles such as the Legends one, History of the Knights Templar, Knights Templar and popular culture, and so forth. If you'd like to help with the process, feel free! One of the highest status things that any editor can do or claim on Wikipedia, is to be able to point to a bunch of Good or Featured articles that they've worked on, so if we can get the Knights Templar article to "Good" status, it's a nice feather for your cap.  :) The main way that you could help right now would be with citations -- we're trying to make sure that every major claim in the article is linked to a reliable source that confirms that data, so if you have access to other reference books and could help with sourcing, that'd be great. There are also a list of comments at the current Peer review, so you could maybe pick one of those and work on it. As for the pirate info, do you have other sources which confirm the link with the Skull and Bones? Or is it all from the one book? --Elonka 01:02, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

• Hey there, sorry about the late response, but I have been caught up in issues with an Admin. I added Breeze as a hypothesis. He is head of the OTO, but he was also a member of most of the bands involved in TOPY (and he is one of the few influences that has a wiki page) so I added him. Ebony Anpu

Sorry, I didn't close the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-delete it... I just blocked some open proxies that were involved in the AfD and removed a copyvio tag that didn't assert the source long before the AfD. I really have no opinion on this article. "Many admins and editors seemed to think all the information met with WP standards." This statement is false. All the folks replying to the first AfD were not Admins. Many of the folks replying to the second one saying delete are admins. Gee wiz. Most of the folks replying keep on the first AfD were doing so because the AfD had been started by anons - look at their comments. They were not commenting on your article. After I reset the AfD, I notified every single person that voted in the first one. Now, with the current AfD that has had plenty of attention from experienced editors and admins including those who saw the first one, nearly every single person has said that the article should be deleted because it does not come close to meeting our standards of inclusion, standards admins know about more than you, for sure. Everyone voting in that AfD have looked at the article, not just my comments. To say I have caused the article to be deleted when more than twenty people have said to delete it is delusional. • You are at the very least failing to WP:AGF here on the part of Jeffrey. I'm not involved in this AfD in anyway (my only contributions so far have been to recommend the AfD not be speedily closed so at the end there is a clear indication that there was a consensus stemming from the AfD and a comment that I was blocking TOR !voters per WP:OP). I have no vested interest here either way so hopefully you will take what I say as a neutral, outside party. Please comment on edits, not the editor. I understand that you disagree with what Jeffrey did, but attacking him in the AfD is the wrong way to go about this. If you have a concern that an admin has acted inappropriately you can post a message on WP:AN/I asking for some discussion or review of the admin's action. • Reached Chandra Reese-Friese, Charles Resse's only living child. She confirmed free use copyright for all pictures of him. Contacted Mark Newcomb, who is in possession of many pictures of Charles Reese and also runs a memorial web site for him. He confirmed that Reese's ex-wife gives full free use copyrights. I upploaded the image to Wikipedia Commons with the proper tags. I also opened a file in W:DRV about the picture. The confusion was mostly mine, but now that I have the picture properly tagged, it should be no problem. Putting up a photo has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the article is deleted, nor will it change the delete votes on the AfD as the substance of the discussion is about the verifiability of the sources and the notability of the subject. As we have very strict image policies (and for good reason), and due to the nature of the material, I do not foresee any photos being allowed in the near future. Do not worry about photos, and instead worry about seeing whether or not the subject meets notability guidelines and the article meets verifiability guidelines. --Jeffrey O. I really appreciate your concern. It's nice to see that good people are also on wiki. I feel like I have tried my best with Jeff. I have tried to mediate with him to no avail. His language seems so ill-intentioned to me that I do not even want to deal with him any more at all because every interaction is so unpleasant. I opened an RFC in the hopes that others will deal with his incivility. He apparently has many similar complaints from other editors over a period of years, but it seems like nobody is willing to do anything about it.  :(. Captain Barrett 05:45, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Your options

Discussions at WP:ANI are automatically archived by a Bot once they have been present for a certain number of days. This happens whether the matter is resolved or not. If you wish to pursue the matter further you have 3 options:

1. Find better sources to confirm the notability of Ebony Apu. That doesn't mean sources to confirm that he existed, but ones that confirm he's important. The notability threshhold is designed to ensure that Wikipedia is not overwhelemd by articles about everybody. You should find reliable third party accounts that talk about why Ebony Apu is significant. Obvious examples would be: a biography written about him, news reports discussing him, awards or accolades he achieved. If you can provide a convincing case, you should be able to persuade an administrator to restore the article.
2. If you believe the article in the form that was deleted complied with Wikipedia's standards on notability and that this was supported by reliable sources, you can seek a review of Coredesat's decision to close the AfD as Delete. To do so you need to make a request for a deletion review at WP:DRV.
3. If you want to invite comment about User:Jeffrey O. Gustafson's conduct in this matter, you can file a request for comment at WP:RFC/U. The format for such a request can be seen here. Note that a request for comment must be certified by two people to say that they tried to resolve the dispute but were unsuccessful, otherwise it will deleted after 48 hours.

I hope that helps. My honest opinion is that you won't achive very much through options 2 or 3. If your ultimate aim is to make sure that there is an article on Ebony Apu on Wikipedia, I suggest you work on making a strong case (supported by reliable independent sources) that he is important enough to deserve an article. • Thank you for all the assistance. The problem is that I did firmly and soundly explain Ebony's notability, with sources, but it was changed by Jeffrey many edits ago. The sources and notability has never been attacked by anyone as virulently as Jeffrey. Even after I present new evidence he just repeats his POV mantra "He is _not_ notable." There is no way to convince someone who has already made up their mind, but I am confident that, if given the opportunity to re-write and re-phrase (without Jeffrey interfering), and given Admins with true NPOV , it would be passed with no problem. I can refference at least five other articles, _not nominated for deletion_ that has even less that Ebony's, yet they are still up. This is suspicious. Captain Barrett 20:05, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Advice on getting your material into WP

Based on the current state of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ebony Anpu, it appears that the biographical article you created will be deleted. If you have material that, based on Wikipedia policies and guidelines, you believe should be covered here, several options are open. First, you could create an article about the "Hawk and Jackal" system that established sufficient notability. A caution, though: this could look like an attempt to recreate deleted content and so may be deleted for that reason. Your persistent efforts on this topic have rather poisoned the well, unfortunately, so that the system itself may have to be clearly notable, rather than just borderline, to survive an attempt at deletion. Another, and perhaps better, option would be to find existing articles where this material would be relevant and add it there. • This is the issue, isn't it. I had no problem getting any material onto WP, before Jeffrey. Many admins and editors seemed to think all the information met with WP standards. Again, all my material _does_ meet all guidelines. I have checked and rechecked. Jeffrey reapeating "He is not notable" does not make it true. Thank you for your advice, but if Admins are encouraged to power-broker the way that Jeffrey has and if noone will take the time to investigate closely the actions of an un-ruly Admin, I don't think I will be using Wiki after this case is cleared up, because clearly the process in vulnerable to manipulation.Captain Barrett`

• Also I wish to make clear, my "efforts" have not been about this topic. They are about an Admin that is not acting in a helpful manner. Since I noticed Jeffrey's bad behavior towards myself (and others, see this RFC about a similar matter one year ago) I figured I would find out how functional the Wiki dispute resolution processes are. So far I have been less than impressed. It seems like some people are more concerned with threats and misdirection, then facing the issues at hand. As a new user I do not undertand why people involved in Jeffrey's case keep giving me advice about how to get my material included. If you look at my history, you will see that I made an addition to the knights Templar page. The Admin there moved my material. I asked her "why" and she explianed clearly and courteously, and that was all, _no problem_. Jeffrey has never answered a single query about one of his edits, and courtesy does not seem to be in his vocaublary.Captain Barrett 18:20, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

• I'm glad you have had better luck getting your material about other topics in WP. Numerous editors have opined that Ebony Anpu does not meet the notability criteria, not just Jeff. I am trying to give you advice on how to get your stuff incorporated because there is nothing that compels me to "choose sides." I think you have something to contribute to WP, but are being distracted by your campaign against one administrator.
