Kolkata Knight Riders

I noticed you reverted my edits on Kolkata Knight Riders regarding its reference to the TV series Knight Rider. The reason I removed that particular statement was because the source simply speculates the relation in terms of similarity of the names. Plus the article was published before the name was announced and there has been no direct correlation stated between the two stated entities. I'd appreciate if you'd explain your stand on this. Peer review idea

Hi, I have made a proposal that no peer review request be archived without some response. To aid in this, there is a new list of PR requests at least one week old that have had no repsonses beyond a semi-automated peer review. This list is at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog.

There are just over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, so I figure if each of these volunteers reviewed just one or two PR requests without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog (as there have been 2 or 3 such unanswered requests a day on average).

If you would be able to help out with a review or two a month from the "no responses" backlog list that would be great (and much appreciated). Please discuss questions, comments, or ideas at the PR talk page and thanks in advance for your help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:12, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

PS Enjoy your break and good luck on exams

Maynard James Keenan Peer review

Just dropping a request, as I'm going for FA and I saw you listed as a volunteer for music articles on the list. Thanks for your consideration. Regards, LaraLove 05:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Rubic's Cube - search for optimal solutions

I made a minor adjustment that you reverted, I think the edit was correct. The original text says there are no known arrangements that can be solved with fewer than 20 moves, I think that should be 'more' instead. I can think of many arrangements that require less moves (for instance, the initial 'good' arrangement is solved alrady so needs 0 moves). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.29.87.154 (talk) 17:33, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

The initial arrangement shouldnot be considered as a solution. Apart from that, what other solutions do you know that take less than 20 moves? There are many arrangements that take greater than 20 moves. All the possible arrangements cannot be solved in fewer than 20 moves. CSumit (talk) 17:38, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I did not mean to state that there are general solutions <20 moves, I meant that there are arrangements that can be solved faster. An example: take the initial arrangement and do one turn, now this new arrangement can be solved with one move (the counter-turn). Perhaps I understand 'arrangement' wrongly in the original text: 'No arrangement of the Rubik's Cube has been discovered so far that requires fewer than 20 moves to solve.' —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.29.87.154 (talk) 17:42, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I actually misunderstood what you were trying to say. You were correct, it was my mistake. Your edit was correct and I should not have reverted it. Sorry once again. Thanks for pointing out the mistake. CSumit (talk) 06:16, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I'm glad I could make a small contribution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.29.87.154 (talk) 17:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Mohali Team

Hi. I do not have access to the channel, hence I cannot confirm. But if you saw it, then it must be true. But we need a reliable source in order to move the article. Currently the article has three versions - Mohali Twenty20 franchise, Pujab Kings and Kings XI Punjab. I am not sure how we will be able to merge the edit histories of these three article in order to comply with GFDL. The most edited article is Mohali Twenty20 franchise. My suggestion is to wait for the official announcement of the team name and then move that article to Kings XI deleting the existing version of Kings XI and redirecting Punjab Kings to Kings XI. But let's wait for more reliable sources (other than interviews) to confirm the name of the team in order to prevent more confusion over the name. Till then you can go through the Mohali article and merge details from both Punjab Kings and Kings XI articles into that article. If there is any announcement regarding the team name then leave a message on my talk page and I'll do the move unprotecting the articles. - Aksi_great (talk) 08:59, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Sumit, saw your name crop up on my watchlist. And being a fellow Bengali, dropped by to say hi. :-) Hope everything is great with you. --soum talk 12:01, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Lolz, thats a nice way to vent frustration. :-D It does remind me of this (originally from xkcd.com). And Haskell isn't tough at all, just our traditional training to think the C/C++ way makes it difficult to embrace the Haskell way.
To have a custom signature, go to the User profile tab in Special:Preferences, check the Raw signature mark and specify your signature in wiki markup in the box provided. Then ~~~~ will use that markup.
And I am a little disappointed with the celebritydom, no paparazzis yet. :-( --soum talk 18:08, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. Which pic were you talking about, btw? --soum talk 09:42, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh, Ok. I am more of a down-to-the-metal sort of a programmer, specializing in compilers and the lowest levels of an OS. So, am not too familiar with scripting languages like Python or PHP (hope to learn Ruby someday though). So, my favorite keeps switching between C/C++, C# and Haskell, depending on what I am doing. Whats yours? Python? --soum talk 10:08, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
I also hate Java. Never feel in control of what I am doing! So you stay in Durgapur? HS exams over? --soum talk 10:17, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I am also a student. In the final month of my graduation (from DA-IICT, Gandhinagar). I also passed out from a CBSE school. Anyways, I have used Linux, in fact have used Solaris, Mac OS X, Singularity and Plan 9 as well. I already told you, my expertise lies in OS kernels and programming languages and compilers, so have at least working knowledge of most major of them. As for Linux, I use (K)Ubuntu but I prefer Windows more because (don't laugh!) I hate the default font on Ubuntu and I am too lazy to change it on every install. :-D Kidding apart, I like Linux quite a lot, but when working at the kernel level, I prefer a microkernel. Thats why I prefer Windows. As for the difference in ideologies of being open-source and proprietary, many of the open source systems are very poorly documented which makes the source code unusable (well, at least impossible to hack into without careful studying). So, having the source code does not make too much of a difference. You still have to mail some of the developers up, which, you can do even with proprietary software. And armed with a debugger and hex editor, nothing is exactly closed-source, is it?
As for my work here, not too many people are knowledgible about the internals of MS software, as compared to those editing OSS software. Also, a non-negligible chunk of editors are here to introduce their PoV - that MS is to be bashed not because of the quality of their software but because MS' ideologies do not match with the editors'. Such intolerance is what I hate, so I keep myself confined to the MS articles mainly.
So, what aspects of computer science are you interested in? Systems management, software development, research or theoretical computer science and algorithms? --soum talk 10:42, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. I will be glad to help. --soum talk 11:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

March 2008

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! Steve Crossin (talk to me) 10:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
