Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living person, but that you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 03:16, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Re: Kramer here
editI saw your edit on User:Materialscientist's page and now understand why you made the edit. I think the main thing that alarmed other users was the large change without explanation. To be honest, the reason I reverted your edit is that you, a new user, reverted the edit of an admin. 99% of the time that means a user is vandalizing a page, but it looks like this is one of those 1% times. My apologies. If you explain to Materialscientist that you are the person the page is about, my guess is that the material will be accepted. You may wish to mention the issues you noticed on the page on its talk page so that other users who follow the page will be able to discuss it with you. :) Also, since you are the person the page is about, I feel I'd be remiss if I did not point out WP:COI to you. While it's not forbidden, Wikipedia typically discourages people with a conflict of interest from editing pages they are close to. But, of course, accuracy is more important so if you see something incorrect point it out. I hope this helps! EvergreenFir (talk) 03:25, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- I know there are a ton of rules to learn on Wikipedia, and no one is expected to know them all at first. One of the cardinal rules is to assume that users act in good faith. As for the info on your page, I would recommend that you do mention why you made the changes on the talk page. That way people will know why you did it. Also, as far as I know, the conflict of interest thing basically means that you need to be careful when editing pages you are closely related to. So long as you do not try to whitewash or promote on the page, it should be okay. If you see someone revert your edits again, I would recommend not re-reverting them because of the "3 revert rule". Just discuss it on the talk page. I will keep an eye on the page myself to see if I can help at all.
- Just a friendly tip: when you leave a message on someone's user talk page or on an article talk page, end your message with 4 tilde (~~~~). Doing this will "sign" your name at the end. :) Cheers! EvergreenFir (talk) 03:46, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
