I know Sarah Palin is controversial, but please don't discuss anything off-topic on talk pages. The thread was deleted as per talk page guidelines and WP:NOTAFORUM. If you don't object, I'm removing the thread again.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:39, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

You may also choose to move the thread to your own talk page.Jasper Deng (talk) 01:40, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
@ Jasper...You are right. I MAY choose that. I may also choose to avoid any and all activities that give me the slightest pleasure so that I forgo any possibility of being second-guessed. But I am reluctant to set aside my own self-interest for the common good of fellow wikipedia editors. It is with that in mind that I admittedly and occasionally do become less rigid and anally retentive than is the norm. This personal conflict between birthright and bafoonery has led me astray on more than one occasion. I realize that it may seem contradictory to be, on the one hand an eloquent scholar and on the other an exceptional wit. But these are the burdens of humanity that some among us must bear. I realize that your chosen editing style may be severe and desolate, somber and melancholy. But those are your burdens. The Dali Llama has said, "Jocularity in all things is a mirror of what is within. Do not allow excessive devotion to propriety to cloak your god-liness". Buster Seven Talk 09:07, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Wikipedia isn't for humor and fun like that, you know. Even a light interpretation of these policies makes that thread rather unacceptable. Wikipedia's about building an encyclopedia, not being a forum. So I'm removing the thread again.Jasper Deng (talk) 02:27, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
I put a hat over it so that no-one would come by and have a moment of fellowship. Note:They may look under the hat but, hopefully, they will be dull enough to resist.Buster Seven Talk 09:41, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Good enough. Anyhow, I haven't edited the Sarah Palin article for that long!Jasper Deng (talk) 01:06, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

The next best thing

And according to to P.J. O'Rourke in a report issued last Tuesday, "Actually there is no way of making vomiting courteous. You have to do the next best thing, which is to vomit in such a way that the story you tell about it later will be amusing." Writegeist (talk) 08:21, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. It is not often that one can have a dialogue about vomiting and debate the benefits of courtesy at the same time. But, I understand your point. Some things ARE hard to swallow and it is better to purge any distasteful morsel with a consideration of the possibility of, at the same time, having a funny anecdote to tell. Thanks for reminding me that I can always gorge myself with encyclopedic duties while at the same time keeping an ear, and eye, open for burlesque. Cheers! Ugh...

I'm not going to let him/her disrupt the Super Bowl, however... understanding, of course, that the Bears are sitting this one out! :) Fcreid (talk) 14:43, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Ugh is right! (as in right/wrong not Right/Left). I'm sorry I created your involvement in the aftermath of your revert. I merely thought you should be informed that an effort was being made to let the user "see the light". It has become fairly obvious that the bulb is missing and any further discussions should take place at one of the inforcement-type noticeboards. I don't usually call the police...in RL or here. As to the BIG game...thanks for reminding me! I will reluctantly support the Packers since it was they that vanquished my beloved Bears. There is no joy in Mudville. Mighty Casey has struck out!Buster Seven Talk 14:56, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Subpages

I noticed your comment to JohnCD, and thought I'd mention a little 'trick' you may not know - a neat way to have links to all your user subpages;

Subpages for this user

User pages;

Talk pages;
/}}

Collapse bottom

Result;

Subpages for this user

Talk pages;

Just a thought, as it might help to keep track :-) Cheers, Chzz ► 11:48, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

WOW! TY, Editor;Chzz. Any other tricks up your sleeves?? I've moved the above to my mainpage. Looks great! One of my sub-pages is Buster7/gleanings. I'm gonna experiment with that move. Thanks for the lesson.Buster Seven Talk 12:25, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks so much for your help. Looks (and works) great. I tried to collapse one of my sub-pages, User:Buster7/Gleanings and move it to my Userpage but no luck. Could you show me how or lead me to the tutorial that explains. Also, from the above threads, I see that you might be willing to critique my Page. I'm an artist so I don't mind the "hodge-podge" quality that it has. But there are also some glitches that I can't seem to fix. Run-overs I call them...where threads seem to visually meld. Anything you do in my behalf is appreciated. Nice to meet you.Buster Seven Talk 12:52, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

If you want to simply display the current content of a subpage on another page, then just transclude it - that is, put . That will display the whole contents of the page "User:YOURNAME/PAGE NAME" on the page you put it on. You can transclude it in a collapsed thingy, if you want, e.g.
My gleanings

...giving...

Regarding "Run off" problems, I'm not sure which page you want me to look at - your user page, or this 'Gleanings' one? But anyway...I think you mean the problem with images and section-headings and things. A simple answer is to put clear after an image - that means, any further content will not begin until the entire length of the imagine has been displayed.

This text will be along-side the fish,
clear
...but this will be after the last one.

Having multiple images along-side each other is...more complicated. It's best done with a table (the lines of which can be transparent), or with use of DIV.

For the moving images at the end, it's probably best to use a gallery.

I hope that helps; have a play around, and of course shout if you need help. Nice to meet you, too. Chzz ► 13:32, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Howdy.

I was just going to tell you, I'd 'archived' the above stuff from my talk, into User talk:Chzz/Archive 28#Gleanings - but I see you made a copy anyway, so that's all cool. No problems. Hope you have fun with it all; no, there won't be an aptitude test, hehe. Shout, if you have any questions. Oh, and Using a Calipher (in the gallery) - should be Caliper, I think, BTW. Cheers. Chzz ► 10:08, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

 Valued Contributor Award
You have been identified as a valued contributor and your efforts are appreciated. We are honored to present you with the Valued Contributor Award and we thank you for donating your time, expertise and effort to Wikipedia. Keep up the good work. Thanks. (more details)

I have to thank you for your post at the Wiki Guides project. Also, a special thanks for the great poem. I had to put a link to it on my userpage. I hope you don't mind. I just wanted you to know that I valued your contributions and am thankful for your help at Wikipedia. Thanks. - Hydroxonium (H3O+) 01:34, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

When I left this message I had a feeling of deja vu. I like to read and learn, so I have been reading a number of your essays just now and it hit me. I've been here before. Since January, I have been researching the problems with Wikipedia in the hopes of learning what the basic problems are and to try to devise solutions. As part of that, I have been reading a lot essays in userspace. I came across yours several weeks ago and they struck me as particularly insighful. I have to say, you are one of Wikipedia's most valuable users. Not only do you understand things here, but you articulate them for others. But most importantly, you fix things and lead by example. You are very couteous and helpful and able to understand things from new user's perspective. Wikipedia and the world are very lucky to have you here contributing. I really want to thank you for that. Thanks kindly. - Hydroxonium (H3O+) 04:04, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello Buster7

Hello Buster,

I got inspired to contribute to Wikipedia for two reasons: (1) reading recently that there are not enough women contributing; (2) working on a project of Yiddish and Polish theater music in Poland between the wars (with Beth Holmgren, chair of the Slavics Department at Duke University), and realizing that some people who are described as 'very famous' in my Yiddish reference books do not exist at all in Wikipedia. It distressed me not to see them there.

I don't know how many more of these I'll want to do but it's been fun to give it a shot. One question is: when I used one reference for much of the information, how do I show that? ref seems to imply the reference material proves one assertion, but I wouldn't want to be putting a bunch of footnotes all pointing to the same document.

I replied, but I've - just now - moved the reply into my archive - User talk:Chzz/Archive 29#Association. Sorry about that; my talk page gets v. busy.

Feel free to start a new section on my talk page though, if you need more help or anything. Cheers, Chzz ► 18:06, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
