Hey that's looking great. I actually wanted to do all the icons in SVG but didn't have any editor that supported the format. Could you please tell me which editor you used?  UzEE  14:13, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Pachyna

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Pachyna, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

This article is apparently incorrect and misleading.

None of the references given provide any information about "Pachyna". A google search for "Pachyna" gives no results, other than this article. It is unlikely that "Pachyna" is a type of moth as this article claims.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Where...?

Where is the shoutbox template you made? --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 20:56, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Template for a shoutbox!

About your idea of templatizing the shoutbox, it really did a mess in my talk page when you put it there, however, I have been considering and testing it (in my sandbox) and i found some errors:

  • It has a bug that doesn´t let you sign (maybe not to all signatures, but since it fails with mine, so do others surely)
  • You can make a general template, but what if a user wants to move the shoutbox to some other position, if he alter the main template, he would be altering everyone's, so he would have to avoid having the template (having it raw as it is originally)
  • The space reduced is not really much (since it´s only big (well, not big, medium) in the edit section (source code), not in the talk page)

In the other hand:

  • As you said, it will reduce space, wherever, but it will reduce it
  • I actually think that your idea of making a general template is really good, but it has to be positioned in the most non disruptive place for users' talk pages in general
  • Having a non-general template (for example: User:Example/Shoutbox) could be a good suggestion for those who want to have it as a template, but who also want to have it in a different position (maybe some users still prefer to use more space in source code than in creating subsections)

So in conclusion, if you manage to fix the main bug of the signing, that would be great and I will consider adding this to the manual, specially the suggestion of the non-general template. - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  02:34, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was about to say that it would be a good idea to have a section for this in wikipedia (like: Template:Shoutbox) but I´ve seen that Bugboy52.40 has already boldly done that (congrats). I have only used it for internal aspects of wikipedia (like talking about itself), but as I have experienced, it could be a good tool for wikipedia's more general work (maybe a test of that would be useful). - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  03:06, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I feel like I went behind your back when I made the template and asked around, but I thought a collaboration would be nice and to get other's opinions. I am currently working on those bugs dam you bugs..., to me the bug with the sig is a paradox, it is truly perplexing, while everything else can be easily fixed. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 03:16, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have identified the problem, if you notice in my sig, the straight dash ( | ), is conflicting with the box syntax, it thinks that anything in front of | is apart of the box. Is there any way to move |} above the text? Bugboy52.4 | =-= 03:39, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean with 'above text'? Perhaps you can try this:
<nowiki>|</nowiki>
for the pipe mark. But still, my signature doesn´t have any pipe mark and still affect the shoutbox (do you think we should move this conversation to the general discussion in your talk page (so others can see it))? - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  04:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
That would be fine. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 15:09, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am done with the shoutbox documentation (tell me what you think; it's very basic). I changed the shoutbox position to the defualt position. Dag-nabbit, now we need to get people to start using it (jk). --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 16:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

And what does substr: do? Bugboy52.4 | =-= 16:19, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I will do that and tell you when it is done. Subst: means that the page using the template is not going to have {{template example}} on their page, but will have the actual source on their page. Does that make sense? Do you think it is good to tell users to append subst: to the beginning, or not?
There´s still a problem: there´s a bug in the line: "Cick here to shout"; the hyperlink does not lead to the edit section, and the word "here" is missing. --Woglinde 02 (talk) 16:25, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dude, that's too many indents! When there are 3 indents in a talk page conversation, the indent thing starts over. Anyway, I think the subst is good because as Damërung said, "You can make a general template, but what if a user wants to move the shoutbox to some other position, if he alter the main template, he would be altering everyone's, so he would have to avoid having the template (having it raw as it is originally)" plus, you have arrows to guide folks that are less code-minded. Of course, you will still retort to that :P --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 16:29, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh-also, I think "instruction on the possibility to add text" should be put in the manual, as the template documentation is only for how to use the template, not what you can do whth the shoutbox (the shoutbox and the shoutbox template are two different things) --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 16:34, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I like the over-use of indents! ROTFL! By the way, as soon as the bug in "click here" line is fixed, the shoutbox template will be finally ready, I think. - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  17:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bugboy!

It's me again. I have come for your help. I am preparing Ctenomorphodes chronus. It is a stick insect. The draft is here [1]. The bug has a zillion synonyms and the taxonomy is changing a lot. I am just wondering if I am making a duplicate article or if the taxobox is way off. I could use your guidance.

This stick insect could generate interest at DKY because it is a strange bug. From preliminary research it looks like it drops eggs for ants to carry away, plus it is parthenogenetic and it's a sex maniac.

As for Red palm mite, it worked out well getting into the DYK with photo and getting 8,000 visits. Thanks for any help you can give. Cheers.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:56, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

P.S. You can reply here as I am watching your talk page. Thanks.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:57, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are awesome! Thank you so much. I will further fix the article up. What do you think for a DYK hook? How about: Did you know that Ctenomorphodes chronus has a serious pencil fetish?--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:55, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that will work, how about an interesting fact. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 02:57, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Interesting? Think of it from the pencil's point of view. Seriously. Very seriously, the ants carrying the eggs away is probably the best bet.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:14, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
That is an interesting fact, but how does it get the ants to nurse the eggs? Maye you should find out more info on the net or in a book. I'll se what I can do. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 13:51, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

How about, ...that like most phasmid species, Ctenomorpha chronus flicks it's eggs to the ground to be attracted by ants, and then carried to the nest were it will over-season (pictured)? Maybe showing this picture. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 15:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm. I wonder if DYK has used this hook before for a stick insect. I will dig, but it's best so far.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:25, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, after quite an extensive search, I've found nothing else on this species. I was really hoping to find more info on the fate of the eggs. I've given the draft a once over and it looks pretty good. Thanks for checking the refs. I was just about to do that. I'll put the article up and hopefully others can find some more info for it. Well done and thanks for your help.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:39, 6 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Erythrism

Hi Bugboy, sorry that it took me so long to reply to your question regarding erythrism; I was traveling. I don't know the answer to your question. Personally I would think that the pink form of Amblycorypha oblongifolia should be qualified as "erythrism", but I'm not an expert. I took the photos from flickr where they were annotated as "erythrism in katydids". Maybe we can find an expert over at Portal:Entomology? Cheers, AxelBoldt (talk) 14:21, 6 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re:genre

Sorry... Must not have been thinking straight when I put that genre in.

But you do have to admit, it is sorta hard to categorize Slow Burn (another song that has had difficulty genre wise) and Falling down, Genre wise. Like, they are by a Metalcore band, but Falling down has traits of Hard rock, Post-Hardcore, Pop Punk, Pop Rock, Punk Rock, Alternative rock, and even Glam rock in it; and Slow burn has traits of Metalcore in the backing lyrics (you can hear guttural screaming in the background), and synth rock, pop rock, hard rock, and post-hardcore. But people insist on calling both Metalcore and Alternative metal, which I think is insane. Altenhofen 01:35, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, and actually, the <br> is preferred in genre boxes.

Eh? What?! "For now"? What do you mean? Is this article GA-class or no? I'm going to start filling in redlinks, once they're done, we'll see what else needs to be taken care of. The article is brilliantly written, and one of the most impressive I've ever seen. See this? This is a featured article! Tell me that Insect is only B-class! It failed the review because some of the refs looked sketchy! They can be replaced! It will be done!

I've replaced the Encyclopedia Brittanica ref with yet another Gullan and Cranston page I found on Google Books. Now I'm starting on redlinks. A little insignificant (talk) 16:36, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I think all of the review's concerns have been addressed. Refs look okay... all the well-written stuff is taken care of... I think it's good. The minimal criteria is covered by a long shot. All the remaining redlinks are in the Classification section, which looks daunting, but what the heck. In the meanwhile, however, they are not addressed in the criteria for good articles. New Butterfly articles

I noticed you made some articles on Hamadryas species. They are extremely short though. I would like to ask you if you could at least add the species authority, the synonyms and the locations these species can be found. Only stating that this species exists is not really informative. We are having the same problems with tons of genus articles without any info. Someone swooped by and made 1000's of genus articles without any info or reference, a lot of which are not even valid anymore (they are synonyms of other genera). Anyway.. I just wanted to make sure we don't get the same problems for species. Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 08:42, 25 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Heliothis nigrifasciata (Hampson, 1903) - Timora nigrifasciata.JPG Heliothis bimaculata (Moore, 1888) - Timora bimaculata.JPG Heliothis uncta (Swinhoe, 1885) - Timora uncta.JPG Heliothis sanguinolenta (Moore, 1881) - Timora sanguinolenta.JPG Heliothis nubila (Hampson, 1903) - Timora nubila.JPG Heliothis leucosticta (Hampson, 1902) - Timora leucosticta.JPG Heliothis decorata (Moore, 1881) - Timora decorata.JPG

The ref is either http://www.sel.barc.usda.gov:591/spod/catalogue/search.html or funet. Much of these species have no info available on the net, except the fact that they exist. http://www.sel.barc.usda.gov:591/spod/catalogue/search.html also list the type location, so if you can't find anymore info, you can just leave it at that.. Cheers and good work on the Insect article! Did it make GA? Ruigeroeland (talk) 13:10, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Great work! I added the binomial authorities and am looking up some links and the locations. I think the text under description cab stay, it's the original description I think? Ruigeroeland (talk) 20:40, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Music Favs

Hey, sorry about the late response! (1 Month, 8 days since your post....) I personally love "Did My Time," "Break Some Off," "Everything I've Known," "Y'all Want a Single," "Souvenir" and "Liar," among many others. Those are just a few that I can come up with off the top of my head that I couldn't live without. However, there hasn't been a single Korn song that I've heard that I don't like! —Signed by KoЯnfan71 My Talk Sign Here! 22:53, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Atreyu

I used to be a pretty big fan around the time The Curse came out. The last record was not terrible, but nothing to rave about in my opinion. Fezmar9 (talk) 23:40, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I am certain you received permission from both Atreyu and Hollywood Records to post copyrighted media on YouTube. And I am sure you also have permission to not only post copyrighted material, but to provide a link to the public for a free download. All before the album is legally made available. So, I am sure I don't need to remind you of YouTube's Copyright Policy, especially the part where it says, "Posting copyright-infringing content can lead to the termination of your account, and possibly monetary damages if a copyright owner decides to take legal action (this is serious—you can get sued!)." Fezmar9 (talk) 01:45, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
The guy that accused me of trying to get laid had little to nothing to base his beliefs on. I am completely unaffiliated with that band. My admittedly uncivil comment stemmed from you being borderline proud of posting a leaked album online while ignoring the Constitutional rights of the artist (Atreyu) and the label (Hollywood Records), and US Copyright laws. I love music, and to watch the entire industry crumble daily in the hands of anyone with a youtube account or a blog does not sit well with me. Especially when his or her attitude toward the matter is "Ahhh come on! Don't be like that." If that makes me an ass, then so be it. Bugs to you seem to be like music to me, so perhaps I can try to level with you. (Keeping in mind that I know little to nothing about insects or your specific interest in them...) Let's say I come across a family of Salt Creek tiger beetle somewhere in Nebraska. Putting aside the Endangered Species Act, I decide to smash said beetles with a hammer and post videos of it on youtube. And my attitude toward it is "Dude! They're just bugs! Calm down. So which video did you like of their little guts squirting out?!" Would that sit well with you? In the interest of creating a decent article for Congregation of the Damned, I will remain civil with you in regards to editing. But I will not engage in friendly conversation with someone who completely disregards the rights of others, and in this case, the legal rights of artists. Insect GA review

Hi, Bugboy. You or your colleagues should call me if you get stuck on some point. If I just jumped in after you have almost completed the job, you might be unhappy about my habit of redeveloping things. I got into the habit when I started on higher-level taxa (mainly phyla), most of which were in poor shape. You guys are the only others I've seen that have had the guts to taken these big subjects. As I said, give me call if you want anything specific. --Philcha (talk) 06:56, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Bugboy. I wasn't kidding about being busy with 6 (!) GA reviews - 4 I'm reviewing and 2 I've nominated and for which reviews have started in the last 2 dates. Sleep would also be good some time. --Philcha (talk) 21:35, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Insect - congratulations

Articles with such large scope take a lot of work, and you've made great improvements. Congratulations! And thanks for the Barnstar, I only wish I could do more. --Philcha (talk) 07:56, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

AAH! It's a GA! Itsagaitsagaitsagaitsaga... I'm so happy! Must thank everybody ever, including User:Cliff smith, User:Philcha, User:Emw, User:Damërung, me, myself and I, and of course, you. Oh, and how could I forget our most prolific contributors, User:69.92.198.92 and User:41.223.35.138? I swear, we should have a wiki-party. Something on IRC, if anyone knows how to work that.

So, for everyone involved:

  The Teamwork Barnstar
For their help in an amazing collaboration, helping the Insect article reach a milestone in its potential, I award (put your name here) this barnstar. A little insignificant Giving thanks to all that is me 16:00, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

But honestly, we didn't do that much at all. Not in comparison to Bugboy. Since the GA review began, 50% of the edits in the history have been yours. You have been improving this article since the day you registered, and you stuck with this article through 3 GA reviews. That's something I could never do, and I think it's something for which you should be respected and admired.

So, here you go. I am certain that you've earned it.

  The Golden Wiki Award
For your shockingly impressive work and diligence towards and for all insect-related articles, I'm giving you this. No refunds. A little insignificant Giving thanks to all that is me 16:00, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Bugboy, and congratulations on a job well done. Great work, indeed. Cliff smith talk 01:52, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the barnstar. I feel a little bad for not contributing more to the article before the GA review was closed, as you may note in my contributions in the past days, I have been a little busy, and my edits became sporadic and I... well, whatever ...Before I went absent, I could (at least) leave an incentive here to atract collaborations for that article's GA upgrade (which worked at least for one user). It´s been a hairy week, but I will keep editing the Insect article to feel like I deserve the barnstar. Oh yes, and:
    - The Super Bio-Barnstar
This barnstar is given to Bugboy, in recognition not only for bringing the Insect article to a GA status (by being the main contributor), but also by making a large amount of substantial editions to the insect-related stuff here in wikipedia. Classification & Taxonomy sections

Hi, that's quite a collection in the preceding thread - congratulations! Back to your question, the truth is that I'm still feeling my way and the next article I work may force me into a new approach to placing Classification & Taxonomy. So I guess the best advice is: be flexible; allow yourself a few days of reading around before start writing (I should try this more often myself!); and try to work out your own list of factors that favour various orderings. As a principle I'd like to place Classification & Taxonomy as late as I can, so that the reader gets plenty of information about anatomy and physiology, including variations on these themes - that way Classification & Taxonomy changes from a pure laundry list to groupings of features (X has features A, B, and C; Y has D, E and F), e.g. at Arthropod. But often particular articles force me to place Classification & Taxonomy earlier, usually because a group has such disparate members that I need to make this clear up front, and then I have to introduce the names along with summaries of names to distinguish the names, as I did at Mollusca or Annelid. And Sponge has Classification & Taxonomy in the middle (sigh). If you look at the "Zoology" section of User:Philcha#Improved_and_got_passed_as_GA you'll see the various orderings I've used. I hope this helps(???). --Philcha (talk) 08:03, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Bugboy52.40, doing insects is quite a project - you might to recruit some children and grandchildren :-)
As your comment implies, organising the info requires a lot of thought, as there are millions of species, so at least hundreds of genera, and so up the tree. Hide/show boxes have some disadvantages: accessbility; printing and equivalents like the WP Version 1.0 DVD, etc.; and the download of a lot of info that is initially hidden. You might want to check whether List-class articles and/or Categories might be worth using. I haven't used these, so I'd see if I can get some advice.
Re Earwig (easy to type than Dermaptera, so I pasted the latter), it was a GA candidate as few months ago, and I was the reviewer. The topic's harder than it looks, because it seems hard to get good info about 2 of the 3 orders. A small edit war also broke out as just as the reviewer started. However, the nominator, Earwig, was enthusiastic to going improving the article, and you might want to contact Earwig. --Philcha (talk) 12:36, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Re etymologies, sometimes a textbook provides a decent explanation, but I often use the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, which is very thorough - and will give you practice in using the Insert->Greek tool on the Edit page :-) --Philcha (talk) 21:28, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just in case...

I made a reply at my talk. Thanks for the invitation :-) ZooFari 01:32, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Great. I also added it to List of mantis species. Should that be considered top or high importance? ZooFari 02:47, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also, I'll be tagging all mantis articles tonight. I will use WikiProject Insects and Mantodea. Should I keep Arthropods? I see you've been removing them, so I was wondering. ZooFari 02:52, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and before I forget again, you must move your archive box, because it is always blocking the words on the bottom right and making them unreadable, which is tragic. (Sorry for the late response!) I know I didn't have to delete the other script, but it was just another import for Twinkle, which I already have set up in my preferences, so it wasn't doing anything.
But WOO! Now other people online can know exactly what I'm doing at all times! ...hm. Anyway. Now I crave customization! Do you know if I can set different messages in the script (for example, instead of having an "online" option I could replace it with something like "online, battling the forces of darkness" or something.)
P.S. Whatever happened to the king of fonts? ALI nom nom 18:13, 17 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
