Speedy deletion nomination of Theatre Alliance of Buffalo

edit

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Theatre Alliance of Buffalo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Dennis The Tiger (Rawr and stuff) 15:50, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Alleyway Theatre

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Alleyway Theatre, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.alleyway.com/history-company.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 15:52, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Alleyway Theatre

edit

A tag has been placed on Alleyway Theatre, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

{{Unblock on hold|1=blocking administrator|The desire to add these pages to Wikipedia comes from the culture that the theatres bring to the area of Western New York. We wish to add the entries because they are an important part of Buffalo and Buffalo Theatre would like the organizations to be recognized by Wikipedia for their history and community importance rather than for promotional purposes. Unfortunately we were in the middle of changing the promotional language when we were blocked, and any future posts will be carefully examined before created.|Buffalo Theatre (talk) 16:11, 23 July 2010 (UTC)}} It's good that you understood the promotional language issues and were willing to rectify those. However, something you may want to be aware of are Wikipedia's notability guidelines for inclusion. Those on groups and companies are particularly relevant. I am not saying what you submitted didn't necessarily meet these, or that it necessarily did - I haven't looked at the pages in question. But even non-promotional submissions that do not satisfy the relevant notability guidelines will generally be removed. Wikipedia is for covering topics that are considered notable by the criteria given. I'm not trying to discourage you, just to provide some relevant information you may find beneficial. - Vianello (Talk) 19:01, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I also note that you don't seem to understand that we simply do not permit any kind of company or group accounts here. The above text says "we" wish and "Buffalo Theatre" would like to do this and that. We don't permit that. Period. Only individual human beings may have accounts here, and then only if those individuals agree to abide by our rules and principles. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:49, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

May I be unblocked to make corrections to the page I created? With these corrections I will get rid of any promotional language and fix anything which conflicts with Wikipedia's rules and principles. I will NOT create any other pages and will put a full effort into fixing the current problem. I am not part of a company or group and by saying "we", I mean myself and a friend. I completely understand the concerns and apologize for the inappropriate entries, and with the privilege to be unblocked I will put the effort into making sure that the guidelines are followed in their entirety.

Decline reason:

Perhaps there's some confusion: this userid will not be unblocked to continue editing, due to the possibility that it is shared, and the potential relationship to an organization or entity. You are welcome to use the {{unblock-spamun}} template to request an unblock to change the username so that you may continue edit according to policies. However, if permitted, WP:COI and the concept of 1 account per person/1 person per account will continue. Please read the guide to appealing blocks before requesting unblock again. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 10:41, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I hope this helps clarify the situation. I'll watch your page if you have actual questions. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 10:41, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
