Democrat Party

Back in June, you participated in a wiki discussion about deleting an article called “Democrat Party (United States).” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Democrat_Party_%28United_States%29). It was agree to delete this article and redirect it to Democratic Party (United States) -- the real name of the Democratic Party. However, someone has revived the Democrat Party article. Would you care to weigh in on this at that article’s Talk page? I think a redirect is in order in accordance with the decision we reached last June. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.139.38.76 (talkcontribs) 06:02, 29 November 2006

I seem to be a little late to the party (apparently you missed my "retirement" notice"), sorry. Anyway, the version I'm reading now (at a different and better name) looks much better than the article I wanted deleted, and as mentioned on Talk:Democrat Party (phrase), consensus can change. I'm fairly sure I wouldn't !vote to delete this new version, and at any rate I'm not sure the new article is substantially similar enough to the old article to fall under the original AfD anyway. My RFA

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! Deletion of "Tom Myers"

In case you're alarmed by the sudden rate of editing going on at this particular page, I was merely removing disparaging comments about my character that some one posted on that page TWICE in the same day. I had no idea that this page existed until some informed me about it a week ago. I am honored to have been included in Wikipedia, and I am trying to make sure that, for everyone's sake, the information on there is accurate. ~TOM —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.166.9.2 (talk) 16:47, 12 January 2007 (UTC).

Heads up: AFDs needing closing

Based on the RFCU case I don't really need to reply, but for anyone else coming here I'm not an administrator, and per the deletion process guidelines I generally only close AfDs when the article's been speedy deleted by an admin and they failed to close it themselves. Re comment on User talk:71.75.89.54

yea, i realized the incident a moment too late, i was trying to add a new section about some new laws that are being debated in congress as of right now, i apologize sincerely for the accident, it will not happen again. I take responsibility for the incident, and again I am very sorry, I could not figure out who to contact about the deal. Thanks for messaging me and not "punishing" me lol. Wikipedia is a part of my everyday life, also a part of my frequent college reports, projects, and 12 page papers that seem to be every week lol. Have a good day.

Redirect of Military Executor

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Military Executor, by Schutz (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Military Executor is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Military Executor, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 22:26, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Super Mario RPG lists

Currently, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars has two lists pertaining to it (List of characters in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). User:TTN decided it would be best to merge the lists into the main article and split Smithy Gang into those articles. I recently merged Smithy Gang into the list of chatacters by removing the non-notable characters, and I have asserted that a cameo section in the list of characters is valid, per Wikipedia:Trivia sections and Wikipedia:Handling trivia that uses Alex Trebek#Cameos as a good example. I have suggested that we rename the articles per Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves to something along the lines of Characters of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and World of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars) just like Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and World of Final Fantasy VI or Gaia (Final Fantasy VII). I believe if these articles are to evolve beyond a non-notable list, they should be renamed. For example, List of Final Fantasy VII locations was merged into Gaia (Final Fantasy VII), because a World article is notable, but a simple list of locations is not. That is why there are other secions of the article to make it a World article. It simply has not been renamed yet.

TTN believes the citations in the development and reception sections of the list of locations, books and magazines, are trivial sources. When I added that the 3D perspective of the game is reminicent of Equinox to the main article, TTN removed it since my souce was "the opinions of the Nintendo Power player's guide writers". Although it was actually Nintendo Power magazine, I do believe a magazine is a reliable source, and I gave a page from Next Generation Magazine which also said the same thing. In addition, I was surprized that TTN said that it was from the players guide, since he claims to own the players guide for the game. He has not verified this, since I asked him for citations in May, "Could you look in the back of the Player's Guide and tell me what “types” of … Magic? I forgot what they call it in the game … well, anyways, what types of Special Attack or whatever it is (actually, could you find out what it's called?) there are? I remember some vaguely when I owned the guide like “Fire”, “Jump”, “Electricity?”, etc. Could you provide a citation, like the page number with a quote in context?" TTN replied that he was going to "get to it" (User talk:TTN/Archive 5#List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). TTN claims the player's guide is "at the bottom of a box that's behind at least five others in a cramped space". Seeing that TTN did not recognize that the page was not from the player's guide when I provided a scan of the page in question from Nintendo Power shocked me. However, I have continued to assume good faith by not questioning TTN's honesty.

Per Wikipedia:Consensus#Consensus can change, I have offered five different reasonable, temporary compromises that might integrate my idea with TTN's.

  1. Go over the list of characters so we can delete non–notable characters
  2. Rename the articles by following the steps at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves.
  3. Cut down the geography section list of locations by cutting it into the regional maps the adventures use when traveling from one to another. I can get pictures and write the fair use rationals, and someone can cut down the text that has no citation and does not allude to other media.
  4. Write the concept and creation and reception sections for the list of characters
  5. Write the concept and creation section for the main article

TTN rejected my compromise because it still keeps the articles. I agreed I would consider a redirect, but Wikipedia:Article size does not allow that, since the list of locations is currently 82 KB long. Instead, I agreed to help cut down the geography section that is the bulk of the article, but TTN rejected that as well because TTN states, "I am not interested in working on the article in regards to improving it." and "get past this "having sources automatically means that this information is good" mentality." TTN states, "I don't think they have or will ever assert notability." I have replied with, "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so if you don't think the articles will ever assert notability, we cannot yet know this, per Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#I don't like it.

Trivia

Hi, I hope this isn't canvassing but I was wondering if you would be interested in this Wikipedia:WikiProject Trivia and Popular Culture. Thanks Ozmaweezer 13:30, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello

I am very new here...maybe 5 weeks. I am captivated by the width and breathe and potential of Wikipedia. It has replaced internet poker as my "residence". In my wanderings thru the nooks and crannies, I searched for a focal point...a base of operation. Early on, I started to read discussion pages and soon realized how much time was being "wasted" in defense of or promotion of such miniscule factors within articles. I also realized how entrenched POV's can become. I had a few little battles, felt sucessful, but realized that POV battling was not the arena that I wanted to be drawn into.

Let me get to the point of why I reach out to you. In my travels within WikiWorld I started to realize that quality editors (my POV) were leaving. Of course, I wondered why. Let me say, reading your page and others like it was VERY enlightening and rewarding. And it tied into an idea I had a week or two back. Maybe, with a little help from my friends(?), I could be like Mighty Mouse and "Save the Day". Or maybe it would be a place I could hang my hat for a few hours a day and get some real work done. What is it, you ask? (at least I hope you ask). "IT" is only in the Genisis stage. It's still in the shell,so to speak. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/wikiknights I hope it sounds interesting to you. Please let me know what you think. Maybe its not "planted" in the right place...maybe its a reinvention of the wheel and is already in place...maybe it will become my own little windmill. I dont know. Thanks for your time and good luck. --Buster7 (talk) 12:03, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

ThankSpam

My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. LessHeard vanU (talk) 18:21, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, back to the office it is...

Proof about EVR Race being first Nintendo game

I'm not the one who added the bit about EVR Race on the Nintendo page, but I saw you quickly deleted it without asking why it was added. Sure, there were no links, but that doesn't mean it's not true. See, I'll direct you here: TO AN OFFICIAL NINTENDO WEBSITE. Straight from Miyamoto's mouth:

  • Miyamoto: "A long time ago, Takeda-san made an arcade game called EVR Race."
  • Takeda: "The horse race game we released around 1975. When that was made, Miyamoto-san was…"
  • Miyamoto: "Still a student. (laughs) EVR Race was the first video game Nintendo released."
  • Iwata: "So that's why Takeda-san is Nintendo's first game designer." --Bentendo24 (talk) 15:39, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, my bad. Given that EVR Race is a redlink and Nintendo is the type of article that gets hit by IP vandals more often than not I just assumed it was nonsense. Thanks for correcting me! BryanG (talk) 21:45, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Third opinion

You commented at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The U. There appears to be a need for a third opinion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Racepacket at University of Miami and related articles and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities#Help with "The U" if you have a mind for it. Uncle G (talk) 02:00, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Looks to have died down now? In any case the current version of U of Miami looks okay enough to me - my main interest in the above AfD was to make sure The U didn't redirect to a specific university, which remains the case - though the existence of refs might make a disambiguation page more viable than I believed then. I'll try to monitor but as it says above I'm pretty busy right now, so feel free to poke me if it flares up again. BryanG (talk) 22:54, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

While I'm sure you meant well, please don't canvass people for comments in a second AfD, especially only to one side of the old debate as is reported here. I do check AfD fairly regularly even when it appears I'm not active, and canvassing does nothing but throw suspicion on any !votes that I or other canvassed editors make.
