Logos for Beta Sigma Omega Phi

edit

You cannot redraw a logo of an organization, such as Beta Sigma Omega Phi, and claim it as your own work. A logo for the organization is appropriate to include; however, it needs to be sourced to the organization itself and indicate that it's a non-free logo. —C.Fred (talk) 16:41, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sir Fred I just have posted our official logo of my article Beta Sigma Omega Phi in my last edition. It was a legitimate logo of our organization and I am an alumnus member of that organization and one of the Board of Directors — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brian Caintic (talkcontribs) 05:42, 2 October 2016 (UTC) (copied from User talk:C.Fred to keep threat intact)Reply
It looks like the logo has already been deleted (again). But assuming you're claiming it as your own work (again), are you saying that the following statements are true?
  1. You drew the logo yourself: you are the original artist.
  2. You have the ability to release the rights yourself, either as the original artist but retaining rights or own behalf of the Board of Directors.
  3. You are knowingly and irrevocably making the logo available for use for any purpose, including derivative reuse and commercial reuse.
If any of the statements are not true, then you cannot and may not upload the logo as a free image. —C.Fred (talk) 14:50, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am one of the Board of Directors of Beta Sigma Omega Phi Betans 1968. The logo that I've uploaded was also created by me so therefore there is no reason for u to delete my uploaded logo. I have also created a website that will confirm the said logo is our official, the website is https://betans1968.wordpress.com

The way forward here

edit

There are ways forward here. C.Fred, can you suggest a Fraternity logo which was uploaded with the correct permissions that can be used as an example? For example is File:Alpha_Phi_Omega.png done correctly?Naraht (talk) 14:44, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Brian Cantic and Naraht: The Alpha Phi Omega logo is a little tricky because it's a Scouting-related logo. A better example might be File:Pktcrest.jpg. That is properly set up with a non-free license template that states it's the logo of the organization. Another good example is File:MuBetaPsiCrest.png, which includes a link to the source website.
Also, non-free logos cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. They must be uploaded to the English Wikipedia. Commons cannot host non-free images; we can. —C.Fred (talk) 17:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Brian Cantic and C.Fred:Good to have a solid example, let's go from there. Brian, do you have a website that would be the best one to download a copy from?Naraht (talk) 17:28, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

yes the https://betans1968.wordpress.com, I was the one who created this website that is why the logo that I've uploaded is 100% mine. As one of the Board of Directors, please allow my edition to my article beta sigma omega phi particularly the official logo

Beta Sigma Omega Phi

Hello, I'm Naraht and I'm an alumnus of Alpha Phi Omega (USA) and an experienced Wikipedian. I'm glad that you are trying to write an article about Beta Sigma Omega Phi and would like to help if I can. I appreciate that finding references can be more difficult for Greek Letter Organizations in the Philippines, but it is needed. Not all Greek Letter Organizations in the Philippines are notable, and references are needed to help distinguish groups like Upsilon Sigma Phi, Aquila Legis, Tau Gamma Phi/Sigma and Alpha Phi Omega from community fraternities exclusively in Batanes. Let me know how I can help.Naraht (talk) 19:10, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

About that Betans logo..

edit

Just to be clear, you, on behalf of the Betans, are giving away the logo at File:Betans wiki.jpg? So, another organization could make a derivative work incorporating the logo—in other words, use your logo as a starting point for theirs—and you're okay with it being copied like that? —C.Fred (talk) 13:01, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
