Speedy deletion nomination of Filthy Lucre (band)

edit

A tag has been placed on Filthy Lucre (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. —C45207 | Talk 06:47, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have deleted this article because I have restored the contents as they originally were at Filthy Lucre. The band Filthy Lucre seems at a quick check to have 31,800 hits on google. The nightclub event with which you replaced the article has 6. If a new article is to be written on the nightclub event, it should be disambiguated, since the band seems the far more dominant use of the term. However, I'm not at all sure that the nightclub event meets our notability guidelines. Without reliable sources that verify that it does, an article on this event is likely to be deleted.
Besides the fact that the band is the more prominent use of the name, as far as I can determine, copying material posted by other contributors to new articles is a violation of our licensing unless you give them credit. Material on Wikipedia is not in public domain. Giving an article a different title by copying its content and pasting it into another page with a different name is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history once your account has reached a certain age and level of activity. If you should encounter a situation in the future where a page may legitimately need to be retitled, please move the article using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:22, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
