Chemung Speedrome edit

  • Thanks for starting the 'Drome article and getting some useful information into it. I cleaned it up a little, but it's a great start. What we need most next are reliable sources where the track was featured in edited/factchecked publications like STOCK CAR RACING, or in mainstream books not from vanity publishers. I used Bones Bourcier's book on Richie Evans to get citations into Richie's article. I'll look for Chemung stuff in that book to cite. I no longer have access to SCR from the 60s-70s-80s nor to weekly trade papers like Nat'l Speed Sport News or Gater. Barno 13:25, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • I checked, and there are only a couple of passing references to Chemung in the Evans book, none worth citing. I don't think it's notable by itself that Richie won a certain number of NASCAR and NEARA modified features there (which is listed in that book), unless we can find mainstream press coverage of a big special event. Upstate NY racetrack articles edit

  • Hi. Are you Brock Moore who posts frequently on RaceNY? Thanks for the note on NY tracks. I wrote the Shangri-La article and little bits of Chemung. I haven't done much (if any) about Perry, Spencer, and Oswego yet. I see the Shangri-La logo you added today has the "fair use" tag with no detailed rationale. See Help:Image page#Fair use rationale and Wikipedia:Logos for what we're supposed to try to do for that. One of the core ideas of Wikipedia is to have all the content be shared and sharable, not violating copyrights of anyone who doesn't agree to share the images (or copyrighted text). Thanks for getting pics, and let's make sure we use them appropriately. An overhead photo of the track would be more encyclopedic than the latter-day logo. Maybe Mike Marrer ("35mmracer" on RaceNY) might be willing to release such a photo under a free or Creative Commons license for Wikipedia. Barno 02:05, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Also, since racers are doing slow off-season prep instead of thrashing in-season repair, some might have more time at their computers. Can you post a recruiting message for WP on RaceNY? I'm not registered there. In particular I want to find someone with a collection of the old STOCK CAR RACING, as I noted on the WikiProject NASCAR talk page. We could improve a lot of articles with help like that. Barno 02:05, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Tnahardcorewar06.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tnahardcorewar06.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:070416 shooting hmed 8a h2.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:070416 shooting hmed 8a h2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Copyright violation in Image:Elm first arena.jpg edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Elm first arena.jpg, by Fuzzy510 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Elm first arena.jpg is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Elm first arena.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:24, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Nhmslogo.GIF edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Nhmslogo.GIF. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Wvmplogo1.jpg} edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Wvmplogo1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Copyright problems with File:ShangriLa2.jpg edit

Hello. Concerning your contribution, File:ShangriLa2.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). As a copyright violation, File:ShangriLa2.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. File:ShangriLa2.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at File talk:ShangriLa2.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at File talk:ShangriLa2.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on File talk:ShangriLa2.jpg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 14:10, 20 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Dunn Hill 2 Speedway edit

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Dunn Hill 2 Speedway requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Accounting4Taste:talk 17:37, 17 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Elm first arena.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Elm first arena.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
