Managing a conflict of interest

  Hello, BlueHawkUp. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page David L.   • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

C.Fred 20 May 2018 2337 ZULU - for the page created David L. Hicks I was citing sources to prevent plagiarism. This is part of an assignment for a course I am taking and it will be turned in for a grade. If I do not cite my sources that is considered plagiarism and an automatic fail. I am sure you understand that; you're been doing wiki stuff for a long time. I am supposed to graduate with a Master's degree in less than 2 weeks time. I would hate to fail for not citing my sources on a wikipedia assignment. I know it looks like the sources are close to the source of the BLP. However, considering that it is about the President of the Seminary and are from his CVs and his Resume that have been vetted and archived in the library (prior to my being a student there) I can tell you that I am just trying to get the assignment taken care of. Creating this page was my idea. We are trying to maintain the information on pages concerning the Reformed Episcopal Church and leadership in the church. This Bishop does not have a page. I do not know much about Wikipedia so this is the first page I have created. thanks. Blue23:42, 20 May 2018 (UTC)~~Reply
The problem is that the sources you have cited are all either by Hicks or his diocese. There are no independent sources writing about him; that's the problem. Further, the COI tag is added because of your connection to Hicks—and that's only compounded if he's the head of the school you're attending and writing about him for a grade. (Fortunately grades aren't remuneration, so you don't seem to fall into the category of a paid editor.) —C.Fred (talk) 23:50, 20 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

However, since no one has written about him then the sources are too close to him and look "biased". BTW, I have looked at everything cited and like for the list of committees, I realise I did not need to cite every item so I cited the last item from each source. that way there are not a tonne of citations, it looked messy anyways. I can find some contributors to later add to the page. I need to get the page started and there will be others to add to it later. I just wanted to get a good foundation for the page. As someone with your experience, for my first time making a wiki page, and I will admit, I found the templates, so I did not totally make everything from scratch, but how did I do? Forgot to sign ...
