Names of kings

Hi Blackknight12, I see that you have changed Sri Rajadi Rajasinha to Rajadi Rajasinha and Sri Wikrama Rajasinha to Vikrama Rajasinha. Is there any reason for it? The correct formal names of these kings are with Sri and for the latter, with a W in English and not V. Look at this search result.. --SriSuren (talk) 08:03, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey, hows it going? It was another editor who in fact changed the name, by removing the "Sri", for being an honorific title, (on Vikrama Rajasinha of Kandy) so I moved the rest of the articles to coincide. The W instead of the V, well I'm not sure if that was me, but I would say leave it of move it to the most common name.--Blackknight12 (talk) 09:40, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
OK. But I think they (whoever changed it) should stick to the correct names, because these persons are historical people and using alternative names would cause confusions. Have you seen the latest edits on Sri Wikrama Rajasinha and The Kandyan kingdom? I've tried to change Sri WR, but Tamilan101 seems to be convinced that the Kandyan kingdom was Tamil and Sri WR too. --SriSuren (talk) 16:06, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Sri Vikrama Rajansinha - Edit Conflict

Hi Blacknight12,

I thought I'd get in touch with you because you have helped make constructive improvements to the Sri Vikrama Rajansinha in the past. I have added this information to the article's talk page and also to the key editors involved in the current edit conflict.

There seems to be an unconstructive edit war over the name of this article. I think it's time the matter was resolved by an administrator. The article was previously entitled, "Sri Vikrama Rajasinha of Kandy". "Sri Vikrama Rajasinha" was the most common name by which the last king was known as per both Sri Lankan and European records, a perusal of books on the Kanydan period will confirm this. Yes, "Sri" is an honorific prefix, but it is also the most common name by which he was known. The prefix "Mother" appears in the wikipedia entry on "Mother Teresa", this is in accordance with MOS:HONORIFIC: "Where an honorific is so commonly attached to a name that the name is rarely found without it, it should be included". Secondly, Tamilian101 has been attempting to add "Prince Kannusamy" to the king's name. Pre-coronation titles should appear in the article, but certainly not in the title of the article. Addressing a king by the lower title, "prince", is incorrect and disrespectful. The article on Queen Elizabeth does have "Princess Elizabeth" appended the the article's title for this reason. Regardless of your politics, historical revisionism is unhelpful. Prince Kannusamy Nayaka, a member of the Madurai royal family, chose the name "Sri Vikrama Rajasinha" upon his coronation (aged 18), and that is the most common name by which he was known throughout his life.

Furthermore, adding the name of the king in three separate languages on the English Language version of wikipedia clutters up the page with information that it largely uninformative for the vast majority of readers. It should be noted that Sri Lanka's inhabitants at the time also included Burghers and Moors (who spoke Dutch and Arabic among other languages), listing his names in all these languages is unnecessary clutter. This is why Queen Elizabeth's name does not appear in Welsh, Gaelic or any other language on the wikipedia entry, because it is uninformative on an English language encyclopedia and adds unnecessary clutter. I have added this information the article's and Tamilian101's talk page in the hope that he would see reason, but it is clear that he is trying to engage in politically motivated historical revisionism. I stated that adding "Prince Kannusamy" (a previous and more junior title) before the actual name of the king on the image and his completely unnecessary (we don't see Princess Elizabeth preceding "Queen Elizabeth II" on her wiki entry). My revisions have all been reverted without the reasons being addressed on the talk page.

This is an important article on one of the most interesting periods of Sri Lankan history, so please let's work together to make it more informative an accessible without quibbling over unconstructive modifications. If you have the time, I would really appreciate your input on how to go about getting the article back to into it's former, more accurate, version.

Thanks 124.148.180.226 (talk) 06:15, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Pandyans

The Pandyans have always controlled the northern part of the country, from as early as the Naga times. Naga aka Nakar practices are still practiced in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Next, there are many place names in Sri Lanka named after "Naga" such as Naga pattinam in India (Tamilakam), and Nagar Kovil in Northern Ceylon(Tamilakam). Thirdly Anuradhapura Kingdom was down south, so the Pandyan Dynasty may have invaded this kingdom, however that does not mean they are invaders to the island. Fourth, genetics have proven that Sinhalese people are genetic admixture of South Indian, Bengali and Veddha, which proves who are the real inhabitants of the Island. Fifth, yes it is true that South Indian kingdoms such as the Cholas have invaded the island numerous time have, however that does not mean that the present day Sri Lankan Tamils are descendants of invaders. Genetic studies on the Sri Lankan Tamil people show that the predominate genes are "Sinhalese. So if Sinhalese genetics are predominantly South Indian and Sri Lankan Tamil genetics are predominantly consisted of "Sinhalese" genetics than this has proven that the original ancestors of both ethnic groups would be South Indian. :) You and SriSuren are trying desperately to erase Tamil history from the island due to politically motivated ideas. I don't know if it is your hatred or your attitude but please stop. I recognize that Sinhalese are also apart of the island, with notable history as well, however do not try to exploit references and write articles in the format that only analyzes the aspect of the Sinhalese people and history. I find your accusation on me of "hatred" on the Sinhalese people very offending, because I am only here to write the truth on articles based ON REAL facts. Thank You. List of cities in Sri Lanka

I have reverted your edit because the geographic areas are known as Divisional Secretary's Divisions not Divisional Secretariats. Divisional Secretariats are the government office/organisation headed by the Divisional Secretary. All the Divisional Secretariats articles need to be re-named Divisional Secretary's Divisions as they are about the geographic area, not the government office. Also, I think the images look better on the right hand side rather than at the top of the article though I appreciate it causes problems if you have on old 4x3 monitor.--obi2canibetalk contr 15:55, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Tamizhagam

Tamil Eelam may be an aspirational modern state, but historically it was called Eezha Nadu under the polity of Ancient Tamizhagam. Lot of changes have occurred like Chera Nadu is modern Kerala, etc; so it does not reflect the present. Please refer to [[Shiva_Temples_of_Tamil_Nadu#Eezha_Nadu_.28Sri_Lanka.29]. Hi, the article is an interesting one but the user and his/her articles are very swayed and and don't present a NPOV. They are driven by present day propaganda that has come about as a result of the Sri Lankan Civil War and ethnic conflict. Phrases such as "during the reign of the Chief Korran of Kudiramalai, ancient Tamilakam." and "from the Malabar state of North Eastern Ceylon." are completely misleading and wrong. The fact that North Eastern Ceylon is linked to North Eastern Province, Sri Lanka, a Sri Lankan province created in 1988 as a result of the civil war, clearly illustrates that. The North East of Sri Lanka in present times is home to a majority of Tamil speaking people however the state the user is referring to is the Jaffna kingdom, a kingdom that was situated only in the North, as said in its own the article. The North and East has again come out of the ethnic conflict. Also I have never heard of anyone such as the "Korran Chief of Kudiramalai", but yes that does not mean that it may not be factual, however a simple google search on either topic finds little of any worth and nothing that is up to date, which makes me wonder... And of course claiming Sri Lanka is part of Tamilakam, (Ancient Tamil country) a highly disputed claim which seems to stir up Tamil users here on wikipedia when you say otherwise. I urge you to take a look at the discussions on Talk:Tamilakam between the users there and a friend of mine User:SriSuren, he/she is probably the closest thing to an expert on this topic here on wiki. Furthermore the user always seems to use those books of his in these disputed articles which I have tagged, see also Korran and Kudiramalai. There is not a single website nor has the user even used google books to show some kind of cross reference to prove the content in these articles. I have tried removing some of the political incorrect terms in the user's articles just until I can make it NPOV, but he/she has just reverted my edits, hence the reasons for why I tagged them. I thought an explanation as to the tagging would be unnecessary, but how silly of me. I apologize for the large response but this kind of thing is just very much annoying and false. I hope I can get a reply of your thoughts. Thanks and take care. :)--Blackknight12 (talk) 09:59, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
