You're doing it wrong edit
Hi. I saw your edit at Edward Bernays. First, you have a conflict of interest, so you probably ought not edit there. I think you might be right about the false middle name. Sadly, citogenesis has already occurred as there are some recent books that probably did their research on Wikipedia, assuming we were correct. My problem with your editing is that edit summaries are not the place to name a source or stupidly assert that you're correct. We need you to add citations pointing to reliable sources for the stuff you claim. I appreciate that you're trying to help Wikipedia, but you're doing it in the wrong manner. - I don't know you from Adam. An obvious conflict of interest is far, far more preferable than an ulterior one. Whom do you think provide original source materials about families - families. There is no James on his Edward L. - While I suspect that you seek to be constructive, I am warning you to change how you've been editing. We can just as easily revert you, warn you, and block you. - You are asking me to find "reliable sources" to prove a malicious and false fact, that was added very recently, is not correct. I have original materials, passport, immigration documents that show no such middle name. Yet, these are not published sources, so they are not considered acceptable. Perhaps Wikipedia should first ascertain whether the original inclusion of "James" was supported by published citations. Since the aforesaid citogenesis has already occurred than it is critical that original source documents be used to correct the record. - No, I am not asking you to prove a negative. I didn't revert your edit because you're probably right. I am telling you generally that you need to get into the habit of adding citations, and avoid editing where you have a conflict of interest. Wikipedia does not care about what is correct. It is not "critical" that we "correct the record." Wikipedia can be wrong and if that bothers you, then you should head back to Facebook. WP:V is a policy. - By the way, it was this edit in 2015 where an IP vandal from Brooklyn NY added the false name. It should have been reverted right there and then but we volunteers struggle to stop vandalism while also allowing "anyone to edit." While I'm glad you fixed our error, learning our norms would be more respectful than bringing your beliefs to editing. Chris Troutman (talk) 21:30, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
