September 2010 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 23:05, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for the note edit

Wikipedia has a number of policies that pertain to external links ( yes it can get confusing ). The policy is here WP:ELNO and does not allow the sort of link you propose. We also have a link regarding referencing here WP:MEDRS. Sorry regarding this. You are more than welcome to get involved though. If you need help finding review articles to use as sources let me know. Much of Wikipedia needs works. Cheers.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 06:02, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please read WP:ELNO http://www.heartosaurus.com/p/ritter-rules.html contains nothing that Wikipedia could not contain itself. It is unreferenced and not particularly notable thus have removed it again.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:26, 7 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

External links edit

I agree the other link you mentioned should not be there and I remove them. The thing is Wikipedia is not a collection of external link. You have been attempting to add your own webpage. This is a bit of a WP:COI. Your site also contains advertising from amazon.

If we look at WP:ELNO it says "Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article." If you feel this article is missing stuff that would be useful to people please find a review article as a reference and add to the Wikipedia page. If you need help with this drop me a note. I will eventually get to improving the articles on the aorta.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 22:25, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

RESPONSE-AORTA edit

Doc, I understand your concerns, and appreciate you at least being fair and taking the other link off. Now can you please help me get my link and some information from my site on there the right way? I'm new to wikipedia and what you're saying I don't understand. What do you mean by "find a review" and post it........what does that mean? Take a look at my site. THere is VERY useful information for people scouring the internet for aortic related disease. In fact my site has UNIQUE information in that a lot of it deals with the social and exercise topics that are far and few between if they even exist. The "Ritter Rules" link I posted is a NEW development in detecting and preventing aortic dissection. Please please please tell me how i can go about getting an external link to the relevant information on my site heartosaurus.com! Thank you for your help. benjamin

This is the type of reference that I mean by a review article [1]. If you need a full copy of this paper I can see what I can do. Karthikesalingam A, Holt PJ, Hinchliffe RJ, Thompson MM, Loftus IM (2010). "The diagnosis and management of aortic dissection". Vasc Endovascular Surg. 44 (3): 165–9. doi:10.1177/1538574410362118. BTW if you need further advice WT:MED is a useful place to ask.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:00, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Review Article edit

Doc, thanks for the response and sorry for my delayed one :)

So in regard to finding a review and posting it as a reference on the wiki aorta page, can I host the review on my own site and have the link go to the review article on my site?

No Wikipedia cannot be used to advertise your own site. If you wish to improve access to information on aortic aneurysms please improve Wikipedia using reliable sources as discussed here WP:MEDRS Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 03:40, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
