Welcome! edit

Some cookies to welcome you!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Bedaapkay! I am Bedaapkay and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. Thank you for your contributions. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions check out Wikipedia:Questions, or feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or type {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. Again, welcome!

Hey, thanks, me! Nobody else decided to welcome me, so I decided to do it, myself. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 21:33, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Admission from a meatpuppet edit

Hi. I received your message, and would like to tell you that I did in fact create this account to post that article, as I was instructed to by my boss Paul Roaded. We don't do any advertising or publicity on line, as Paul is old fashioned. He tried to create the page, and was unsuccessful, therefore I helped him. We never meant to offend anyone. We are a tiny press, and are currently looking to create a website. So feel free to delete that page, it is not worth the trouble for us. Best, JC Hi, again, Thank you for your response. We reviewed the policies that you pointed out to us, and now see our error in judgement. Believe me, as an editor, I fully empathize with your being irritated. It just came as a shock for us to see all of those slanderous comments made by users. Feel free to delete the page, as we here at SHP are officially terrified of the Internet. And thanks again for taking the time to respond. Best, JC

It's irrelevant to me. I have no power other than to cast my ballot for deletion. For future reference, Wikipedia is not the place to do your advertising. Please take a look at WP:NOT to see what Wikipedia is not. In the future, don't use meatpuppets to support an article. If Paul thinks it's worth keeping, let Paul say so. Creating an account with the sole intention of supporting another account's contributions can get you blocked or banned from Wikipedia. Your name edit

I keep wanting to apply db-hoax to it. I've had to stop myself clicking it three times now.... :) Peridon (talk) 21:37, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

By the way, Welcome to Wikipedia. No-one welcomed me, which probably explains some of my editing and !voting...) Peridon (talk) 21:38, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks. I'm sure this account will get blocked for perniciousness and destructive tendencies in the near future, anyway. Just look at my user page. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 22:08, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I might well come back in and pinch some of those userboxes. One or two more I like but wouldn't use. I have a good friend here who is a liberal-minded fundamentalist - and who is getting an education from me at times that disagrees with their church. I don't want to drive a possible convert to evolution away... This person has come to accept quite a bit of it now. I don't campaign, I work by stealth. Sometimes. Not with hoaxes. (Even though I enjoy a good one, I regard them as permanently open season.) I've not bothered listing my languages beyond French, but have edited on the French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Dutch and Breton Wikipedias, and tagged spam in Indonesian, Russian and gawd-knows-what. I've also got talk pages on Basque and Lithuanian but don't know why. Or was it Latvian? Must get round to investigating the making of userboxes. When I get a minute. A minute that's not already filled and has a computer available... Peridon (talk) 22:26, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Congrats on a barnstar. That's almost respectability... Peridon (talk) 22:26, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it's my first barnstar ever, since I started editing Wikipedia back in 2002! I'm all proud.
As far as userbox tutorials go, the standard one reads like a programming manual. This one isn't as well-written, but it's much easier to follow, and gets you right into creating them. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 22:33, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Incidentally, I was looking for a creative name that would truly reflect my intentions with this account. I want to be the most annoying little bastard on Wikipedia, without being overly uncivil, and wanted to proclaim myself King of all Western WikiImps, WikiOgres, WikiTrolls, and the like. I intend to be a sort of check to the balance of thought in Wikipedia, though I doubt I'll be successful. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 22:56, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and don't forget! You can't use fair use images in userboxes, it's gotta be totally free, baby. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 23:00, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Found in an unblock request being declined: ""Then you're either a liar or insane; in either way, you're not needed here." I like that. Not often you find that sort of thing. Peridon (talk) 23:53, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
LOL nice. Wow. I think I made my first Wikifriend. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 23:59, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Murder of Joanna Yeates edit

We really do not need to know Joanna Yeates' hobbies and interests, it has NOTHING to do with the murder investigation, nor does a picture of her old school. Not every single entry on Wikipedia needs a full-blown biography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbiallen (talkcontribs) 01:05, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

While I agree that hobbies and interests are moot points to a corpse, the article is not entirely about her investigation. It is about her life, the murder investigation, and any other information that is relevant to Joanna Yeates. What you are saying is akin to arguing that we shouldn't mention the things Abraham Lincoln did in his spare time, because it's not relevant to his assassination. In this situation, the woman, herself, is not notable, but her death is and makes her notable by proxy. The picture of her school helps illustrate the article, and there is nothing wrong with that. Please do not turn the article into a stub because you do not agree with information that is presented in a logical manner with citations. Welcoming editors with no edits? edit

I notice you've welcomed several editors who haven't made an edit. Until then they don't exist, so what's up? -- Brangifer (talk) 03:35, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I had edits and I had to welcome myself. Plus, it's nice for the first thing you see when you make an account to be a welcome message. If it causes some sort of strain on Wikipedia for me to say hi to new users, I can cut it out. I was just being friendly; call it penance for biting so many people over the years as a dynamic IP. How do they not exist, if they can log in? I understand that the talk page doesn't exist until I welcome them, but otherwise, what are you talking about? Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 03:42, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Plus, I figured I was just encouraging people to edit. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 03:46, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm all for welcoming new users, but if they have no edits, how do you know they exist? I've been here five years and maybe I can learn something here. How and where can you see who has just registered an account? -- Brangifer (talk) 04:04, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
New users show up as a report in recent changes, for me. It probably has something to do with one or more of the tools I've been fiddling around with. Until recently (and even now, I feel), I was a novice editor, despite the amount of time I spent on Wikipedia. So I decided to feel more or less like a badass and hack around with the tools I could find on Wikipedia. I have yet to read the documentation for any of it. I currently have the following enabled: Friendly, Hotcat, refTools, Twinkle (which I can't use yet, grr), ProveIt (which I haven't used yet), revisionjumper, and whichever tool User:Axxgreazz wrote to be included in the MonoBook css and js, I forget the name of it. I'm not socking, if that's what you're getting at. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 04:18, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah, found it. Monobook-suite. Documentation is in Spanish here and a (much) shorter description is at WP:M-S, apparently. I just cleaned the grammar up a bit. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 05:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
So, yeah, I have no clue as to which particular tool lets me see the users, but I'm sure it's one of them. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 05:03, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah ha! That makes sense. -- Brangifer (talk) 06:26, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Drive-by tag edit

Thanks! I wish I could take credit but of course I nicked it (with permission!) from someone else - who in turn was not the original author ... Wikipedia in action at its finest! But yes, it's very good - it certainly sums up how I feel about driveyby tagging. Have a good one, cheers, DBaK (talk) 11:23, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was going to nab it with a little bit less permission from you (adding your name to the list in the comments, of course), but my user page is too full to do anything with it, and I can't leave it on pages, as badly as I want to. Maybe April 1 I'll go around and switch all the CN tags. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 11:28, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Stormy Rhodes edit

Not sure what happened there, but he/she didn't seem to blank anything. This is a new editor who got rather insulted by a bot calling them a vandal. I redid half of what the bot reverted, and I'm trying to get them to redo the rest of it. I'm trying to find out what the problem is at the moment. This is a time for my diplomatic skills not the insults. (I use insults sometimes to get through the incomprehension barrier. Have to be careful, though... ) Thanks for 'sorting' things - I've re-sorted it now. No harm's done by anyone (except that bot that started all this...). Peridon (talk) 20:15, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

When I looked at the diff, it looked like the user had deleted a significant portion of comments. Maybe it was just a momentary glitch. Grand High Poobah of Western Bastardia (talk) 20:38, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Could be. Odd things happen at times. Peridon (talk) 20:42, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've grown rather attached to the list, actually. I must have a go myself, anyway. If the office doesn't contact me tomorrow, I might try. (Can't see them doing - it's a quiet period until after New Year. Oh go on - try the 'grow old but not up' one and the no TV one. They can be used by others too, which most of the others can't. Peridon (talk) 21:40, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Like them. Thanks. Good luck with the soup and the move. Peridon (talk) 22:04, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Ernest Hutchinson edit

In this case, the provincial archives were only used to reference his date of death. Ernest Hutchinson also appears in the Canadian Parliamentary Companion since he was a member of the provincial legislature. The Wikipedia standard for notability for politicians is WP:Politician. Another user reverted your edit with the following comment: Restore reference that confirms everything in the article, including that the subject passes WP:POLITICIAN. Please read sources before removing them or tagging articles for deletion. In the course of your tagging of the article, you also seem to have removed reference information. Please try and be more careful in the future. Thanks. --Big_iron (talk) 13:07, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sussed it edit

Worked out why the userboxes wouldn't work. They should each go in a subpage off a subpage called Userboxes that's off your userpage. Then the link to them goes in curly brackets where they need to be seen. As you wrote them, they could go under your name, or as I thought up the idea, they could go in mine. Whichever. Could go in both, I suppose. Hope the move went OK. Peridon (talk) 16:23, 2 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Romania edit
