Problem with Image:Harvard_Seal_1.svg edit

The University has placed its seal upon diplomas and other important documents for hundreds of years . The current version of the seal has been in continuous use since Charles Eliot's presidency , although it was closely based upon a more classical design from the middle of the nineteenth century . The outer motto , the books , and the shield go back much farther .

Because of its age , the seal is not copyrighted like the wreath logo . Although different divisions and websites employ the shield in various other contexts , the Harvard Academic Seal continues to be the seal for Harvard University and for Harvard College . I hope that you will read Vaille's and Clark's Harvard Book before making any further claims about the alleged inauthenticity of the seal . As suggested , I have modified the image page so that it attributes the Harvard University seal to Harvard University .

I consulted the trademark office . It prefers the wreath logo to the seal because it better fits the school's modern brand identity . I'm in the process of acquiring that logo . The inclusion permission is only for Wikipedia , but we can still post the logo because it also falls under fair use . I'm also attempting to get the approved specification for the seal so that I can colour it correctly and move it to its own section .

Thanks for contacting the trademark office. I think that acquiring the wreath logo and moving the seal to a historical section would be a constructive solution. Atheros07 (talk) 06:03, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
