Please don't use text from websites in articles, like you did on Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Wikipedia articles may not contain copyrighted text. Furthermore, Wikipedia articles are written in a neutral, objective manner based on reliable, independent soures, not text taken straight from the website of the subject of the article. I can assure you that I'm acting on behalf of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and our goal is to enrich the content of wikipedia page with more data. So there is no copyright issue. Do we have to re-write the content so as to be totally different from the content of the website of the Foundation? Athapoli (talk) 09:35, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have placed a {{talkback}} notice on Fram's talk page. Logan Talk Contributions 09:40, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
(Thanks for the note). Even with permission of the Foundation to use their text here, it is basically not suited for our purposes, which is an attempt to be neutral, not to copy the position of the Foundation. Rewriting their history and mission is the better way to do this. Sentences like "that exhibit strong leadership and sound management and that have the potential to achieve a broad and lasting impact." may be correct or incorrect, but they shouldn't be placed in Wikipedia unless there are reliable, independent sources (e.g. newspapers) which state that initiatives of the foundation have made a lasting impact or something similar. Until then, it should be something like "[...], founded by Stavros Niarchos in 1996, is a philanthropic organization supporting mainly Greece-related initiatives around the world. Institutions and projects related to welfare, education, health, and culture receive grants from the Foundation. It's yearly budget is about $XXX, wich is divided in roughly XX grants per year." (very rough draft, needs improvement of course). Praise and criticism should only be included when it comes from reliable independent sources, and should try to reflect the actual weight of both in the media (i.e., if there has been some scandal that has received a lot of press, it should be visible in the article: if an initiative is widely lauded, it should also be visible). I hope this helps! It would be best if you also checked WP:COI, as it gives guidelines for editors with a conflict of interest, like you have here. Fram (talk) 10:26, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
