Editing edit

Hallo, I came across Joan Hutt because I watchlist our mutual old school, and then went on to do some cleaning up of both her and her husband's articles. Both articles read rather much like obituaries/family memoirs (your parents or grandparents perhaps?), but they probably just about pass the hurdle of "notability".

For any future articles you create or edit, please bear in mind a few points:

  • Article titles only have a "disambiguation" in brackets if they need one - it's not a place to put an epithet describing them. So the articles are now at plain Joan Hutt and Leslie Bonnet, as both names are unique within Wikipedia. (I've also added them to the Hutt and Bonnet pages, which list holders of the two surnames.)
  • If you're linking to an article which has a disambiguation, you should "pipe" it: You type "He married [[Joan Hutt (artist)|Joan Hutt]]" and it appears as "He married Joan Hutt" which points to Joan Hutt (artist). (Not needed, now that the article is moved, but that's how to do it another time.
  • Subjects of articles are referred to by surname, not forename
  • Remember when choosing what to link and not link that WP is an international encyclopedia, so that "RAF" might not be obvious to everyone
  • If you want a list to appear on separate lines, use "*" at the start of each item
  • If you use one reference several times, give it a name and then re-use the name - you can see how it's done if you look at these articles.

There's a huge amount to learn about Wikipedia, and you've started off with two substantial articles from almost a standing start, so inevitably some things needed cleaning up. I hope you'll enjoy editing, and move on beyond your immediate family! It can get addictive. PamD (talk) 19:24, 16 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Another golden rule: always check that links are going where you want them to! I've unlinked "Dudley" from your statement that Bonnet's mother "was one of the Dudleys, a Staffordshire farming family". Professional wrestlers? I think not. (It's easily done: I made a link to Democrat Party (United States) instead of Democratic Party (United States) the other day - quite different, and I didn't check properly.) • And also, please use edit summaries as a courtesy to other editors: tell us what you are doing. Thanks. PamD (talk) 21:00, 16 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wolf's Lair edit

I removed your addition as I don't think it adds to the article. Could you also please not mark such edits as minor? Please take this to article talk if you disagree. --John (talk) 12:47, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
