Hindustan Times photo

edit

Hi, regarding Image:Hindustan_Times_Article_02-Aug-2005.jpg: we can't claim that image as GFDL since it's a photo of copyrighted content by the newspaper. It might be legitimate as a magazine cover/fair use pic, but you would need to add a fair use rationale (use the {{fairusein|name of article}} template). Can you fix this? Thanks. The article in question

edit

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your note. Mailer diablo is very professional, and appears to have followed all the rules concerning this article. However, mistakes do happen, and perfectly valid articles sometimes get deleted because we don't have all of the information. I appreciate the thought and time that you've taken regarding this issue.

Your best best is to take this to Wikipedia:Deletion review. This page is expressly not to "be used simply because you disagree with a deletion debate's reasoning — but instead if you think the debate was interpreted incorrectly by the closer or have some information pertaining to the debate that did not receive an airing during the AfD debate (perhaps because the information was not available at that time)", which seems to fit with what you're saying.

I wish you luck, and if you have further questions, please feel free to drop me a line. Happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 08:30, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Interesting to see new evidence appearing after the debate has closed. I'd preferred if you actually presented this while it was still on AfD, but now at this point, like Firsfron has mentioned, your best bet is to take it to deletion review and present this new piece of evidence if you do wish to proceed with the appeal for undeletion. It is also best if I can make out of the contents of the article; currently the article's font appears too small for me to interprete anything. - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 11:07, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Google cache

edit

The Jayram Menon article is probably still in the Google cache. I found it there :-) You might try this link Cached Jayram Menon article; it might still be live. I tried to email the text to you as you have a userbox that says you can be reached by email - but when I click it, it states that you do not have email enabled. You can send me an email and I can reply with the text, if you can't find it in the Google cache. If it can help you create an article that does establish JM's notability that would be great and I'd be happy to support it. I'm working on the scanned image right now to see if I can enhance it to the point where I can read it.
Brian 09:38, 10 August 2006 (UTC)btballReply

The scan us not improvable with any of the tools I have...I still cannot read most of the article and I expect other editors will not be able to either. I've searched the HT archives for the source of this article and it does not appear to be in their online archives. Can you please scan an image at higher resolution? Thanks

Hi Ashley, the easiest thing to do in that situation is remove the license info altogether, so the image will get automatically deleted in a week. You could upload it to some site like imageshack.us for review by the admins, if you need it up longer than a week. Uploading to Wikipedia is (mostly) only for images for use in encyclopedia articles, so they either have to be free-licensed or have a fair use rationale for inclusion in an article. Wikipedia is getting more and more paranoid about copyright infringement so they've become very strict about this. For fair use info see Wikipedia:Fair use criteria but it's tedious and getting worse. Phr (talk) 17:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Hindustan Times Article 02-Aug-2005.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. I hope you won't mind

I used your image in the blonde article. Didn't notice it was a wikipedian's image 'till after I put it there.

I believed a better looking image was needed for that article, and you were just beautiful and improved it greatly. Thanks, 80.178.34.73 09:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just noticed you are a lesbian... What a shame. The complement remains, however. :) 80.178.34.73 09:56, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading Image:HTArticle-02-Aug-05JVM.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. --Slowking Man 07:08, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Volapük

Hi AshleyMiller! I found your name via the m:Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians and thought you might care about this discussion: m:Proposals for closing projects/Radical cleanup of Volapük Wikipedia. In case you agree that deleting bots is not the way to go for the Volapük Wikipedia, you could help us fight against the proposal with your vote. Thanks in advance! --Smeira 16:18, 13 jan 2008.

Welcome to the Article Rescue Squad!

Hi, AshleyMiller, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! -- Banjeboi 03:10, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Survey

edit

Hi Ashley!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Orphaned non-free image File:Mhg company logo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mhg company logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:45, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
