Speedy deletion nomination of User:Arnoldwillsrutland/sandbox edit

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Arnoldwillsrutland/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. December 2021 edit

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:51, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Clear violation of WP:PROMO. Your contributions would be appropriate for a marketing site but have no place on an encyclopedia. Yamla (talk) 13:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I find it unfair for Wikipedia to have removed my article and blocked my username and IP for reasons of promotion and marketing. I would like to speak in my defence in clarifying that I am not marketing or promoting any products or a company. I am submitting history of a leather manufacturing company based and brought up in England, UK. Lambournes Sophos. Please look to re-instate my account, so I could make this contribution on Wikipedia. It see this as an excessive use of power by admin users

Decline reason:

As explained below, you were unambiguously promoting your company, but have shown no understanding of the fact. I posted a message which was intended to encourage you to do so, in the hope that you could provide justification for me to unblock you. Unfortunately you have not done so, so I have to decline your request. If you ever come back and consider posting another unblock request, I advise you to make sure you address that point, as otherwise you are never likely to be unblocked. JBW (talk) 11:52, 14 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hi Arnoldwillsrutland. The problems with your editing so far are these: your proposed article doesn't show any indication of notability (see WP:GNG and WP:NCORP), the wording has elements of marketing puffery and your username indicates a conflict of interest in writing neutrally about this subject. I note you say you are not writing promotional material, but given your obvious association with this business you really shouldn't be adding material on it at all. If it is genuinely a notable organisation someone else will no doubt write an article about someday.

So where does that leave your unblock appeal? Blocks on Wikipedia are preventative, so to be unblocked you'd need to show that there wouldn't be a repeat of the edits that brought about the block. That means agreeing not to write about subjects with which you have a conflict of interest, plus giving some indication of what kind of other kids of edits you'd like to make. In your case you'd also need to convince any administrator who reviews your request that you understand the policies on notability, reliable sourcing and COI. If you are employed by Arnold Wills or anyone else to write articles, you will also need to comply with this policy which requires disclosure of who is paying for what. And lastly, you would need an okay from the blocking administrator.

I understand if all this seems like a lot of work, but your edit history so far really does suggest that you are here to promote a business. A fair amount of work is therefore required to turn this around. Up to you - I'll leave this unblock request on hold for a while so there's time to respond. -- Euryalus (talk) 09:10, 14 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your response and comments Euryalus. I do agree to your proposal and I agree not to write about subjects which could cause a conflict of interest. Please remove my block and reinstate my account. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arnoldwillsrutland (talkcontribs)
@Arnoldwillsrutland: You've made a few mistakes on this page which I have taken the liberty to correct:
  1. Please don't insert additional {{unblock}} requests when there is still one open and pending review. I've deleted your duplicate unblock.
  2. Please post new talk page comments at the bottom of the page or relevant section. This ensures that the discussion flows in the correct chronological order.
  3. To notify a user, use the {{reply to}} or {{u}} template, not <ref> tags. Ref tags are used for citations within articles; they do not issue notifications to other users.
  4. Avoid using <p> or other HTML markup in the wiki editing window. Wikipedia has its own markup called wikitext, and you can learn how it works at Help:Wikitext.
  5. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages. There are two ways to do this. Either:
    1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
    2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:58, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

{{reply to}}Euryalus Thank you Drm310, I am awaiting for my account to be reinstated.

You wrote a fairly long page about your company, full of such language as "highest level of skill" and "well-respected". You were clearly and unambiguously promoting the company, and if you honestly think you weren't then you are so unable to see the nature of your own writing as to cast doubt on your ability to contribute neutrally in future. However, if you would like to make any comment about that then I will be willing to consider it. JBW (talk) 21:59, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Euryalus: On the 14th of December you put this unblock request on hold pending a comment from HJ Mitchell, but I can't find any evidence that you notified him. My inclination is to decline the block, in view of my comment above and the lack of response to it from Arnoldwillsrutland, but do either of you have any opinion on the matter? JBW (talk) 21:27, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Arnoldwillsrutland, unfortunately neither of the administrators I have mentioned above has edited within the last few weeks, so we may not get a response soon. 😕 However, I will leave it as it is for now, to give them a chance to answer. JBW (talk) 21:31, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • @JBW: hi, by coincidence was logged on to look something up and saw the ping. I think I notified HJ Mitchell by email, but sorry I cannot check from where I am. Either way I've handed in my admin tools to focus on studying, so am happy with however you resolve this unblock appeal. All the best. -- Euryalus (talk) 01:25, 11 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
