Ilyushin IL-62 edit

Hi, do you have a reference for OK-BYV being operated as a Czech Govt VIP aircraft? Mjroots (talk) 17:56, 27 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Il vs. IL edit

Is there any particular reason for writing Ilyushin Il-62 as IL-62? As far as I can see, all other articles on Ilyushin aircraft (and indeed the title of the article in question) have "Il" not "IL". Cheers, mgiganteus1 (talk) 14:17, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rather than get into a gigantic edit war spanning many Illyshin aircraft articles, plus all the other articles where they are mentioned, would you mind stopping your changes, and discussing this first? Most reliable English language sources use "Il", not "IL", and the is the pattern which the Aircraft Project has followed to this point. The issue has been discussed before on minor occasions, with "Il" being upheld as the standard. Please feel free to present you reasons for why you believe "IL" is the "correct standard" with should be used at the Aircraft Project's talk page, and try to gain a consensus for changing this, as this would aslo involve renaming the articles to use "IL", which on many cases would have to be performed by administrators. (Note, I do agree only one form should be used, not both.) Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 06:01, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

August 2010 edit

In a recent edit to the page Boeing 707, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or you can visit the help desk. Thank you. BilCat (talk) 16:52, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
