Where it put subst;submitAhlitanah (talk) 22:21, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the information on what to do next with my article in the sandbox. I'm a bit uncertain where to put the words: subst:submitAhlitanah (talk) 22:21, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

To editor Ahlitanah: The location is not important, but usually it is placed at the beginning. Remember to include the double braces: {{subst:submit}}
If you did it right, a yellow box that says "Review waiting" will appear where you placed the code.
If you have any more questions, please ask them below this message. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 01:38, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Previously rejected page

Is there a way to edit a page that was previously rejected and resubmit for Wikipedia approval? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by CountryMusicQueen (talkcontribs) 04:58, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

To editor CountryMusicQueen: Yes, all you need to do is create the page again at Draft:Buddy Owens. (Click the link to do that directly.)
I'm guessing you want to resubmit it, so add {{subst:submit}} to the top when you're ready. Anon124 (+2) (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 20:25, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

editing and editing locked topics

Hello, how are you today? I do hope well. My question to you is how can I become an individual that would be allowed to edit information within Wikipedia, more importantly how can an edit be applied to a page that has been locked to frequent vandalism? I hope that you are able to guide me in a goog direction on this topic. I am very new to wiki as a signed in user but have sought its information for years. Since I am very new I do not even know how or where I should check to see if you make a reply to my question. My email address is starvingstudents01@yahoo.com and any information that you can make available will be welcomed. Thank you very much for your time today. Starvingstdents101 (talk) 19:30, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Starvingstdents101. All you have to do is edit some other pages first. After four days and ten edits in other pages, you can edit most pages that are locked because of vandalism.
I've left some links to further information. I recommend the Wikipedia Adventure to help you get started. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 19:36, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Deleting bad photo of Paul Steinhardt

Thanks for taking the time to look into this and help me out. I think the new photo is OK...it's a publicity photo from Princeton University, and a very good likeness of Paul Steinhardt. Publicity stills are disseminated to the genereal public, and are therefore considered public domain. Princeton released this photo of Dr. Steinhardt in 2007. Sleepy Geek (talk) 05:09, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

To editor Sleepy Geek: That's not how copyright works, unfortunately. We need explicit permission, particularly one that allows commercial use and changes to be made. The belief that publicity or promotional photos are free to use is a common misconception. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 06:41, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

OK, once again I appreciate the help. Seems there are two courses of action: 1. Get a general photo release for Wiki Commons from Princeton U for use of the photo for possible commercial use and for changes to be made, or 2. Move the photo from Wiki Commons to Wikipedia, and get a release from Princeton for educational use only on Wikipedia (therefore not releasing the photo to the world for commercial use or changes on WikiCommons). I suspect option #2 is the best way to go, because while Princeton will probably agree to commercial use, why would they agree to allow changes to be made? I'm virtually certain I can get a release for educational use on Wikipedia (instead of WikiCommons). Do you think I understand the two choices correctly? Thanks again for your expertise. Sleepy Geek (talk) 20:56, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

To editor Sleepy Geek: Option 2 won't work. Wikipedia won't accept a release just for Wikipedia. The only difference between Wikipedia and Commons is that Wikipedia accepts "fair-use" material under certain conditions. Photographs of living people usually don't meet these conditions, so even if such a release were made, it still wouldn't be accepted.
Another option would be to find another photo, or just leave the article without one. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 05:40, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification. I have now tracked down the photographer, and am going to ask them to send a release containing the following; 1. They own the copyright on the photo, and what type of copyright it is (a work for hire). 2. They agree allow the photo to be freely copied and modified by anyone for any purpose. I want to emphasize again how very much I appreciate your EXTREMELY helpful approach. Sleepy Geek (talk) 18:21, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

To editor Sleepy Geek: Hm... If it is a work for hire, then depending on the agreement made on the photographer, the university may actually own the copyright. If that is the case, the university has to send the release. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 18:33, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

Turns out this is a complicated story. With your help, I'm going to be able to nail it down. I'll keep you posted. Sleepy Geek (talk) 18:49, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

Response

@Anon126: Thank you for your response. This page, Stewart Albertson is not an autobiography. Several legitimate sources have been referenced. Also, there will be more info and legitimate references to come in the following weeks. Can you advise me on how to keep this from being deleted? :/ Albertson2016 (talk) 20:38, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

To editor Albertson2016: More sources. That's all I can say. Are there any more news articles that talk about him in at least some detail? Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 22:21, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

The dress (viral phenomenon)

Origin of the photograph: The photograph was taken by the Mother of the bride Cecilia Bleasdale and her partner Paul Jinks in a branch of Roman Originals at the retail park Cheshire Oaks.151.225.61.230 (talk) 22:25, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

I am the above mentioned Paul Jinks the partner of Cecilia Bleasdale, I am the person holding the dress in the photograph. Cecilia Bleasdale has appeared in several photographs wearing the dress, she has also appeared on the Ellen Show wearing and talking about the dress and that she took the photograph. 151.225.61.230 (talk) 00:45, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

The article already discusses the origin of the photograph, with references to outside sources of information (the little blue numbers). It seems that your account is a bit different. Unfortunately, we cannot rely on personal knowledge or experience. I haven't seen the television show, but we may use that a source of information, if you could identify the date of airing or similar. I wanted to award you this cookie last year for helping me with the coding of a joke AfD nomination. Unfortunately, I kind of forgot to give it to you, and it got all moldy and, um yea… I probably wouldn’t eat this if I were you. Happy April Fools Day!
