Welcome! edit

Hello, Blackdiamondusa, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Black Diamond Equipment, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Mephtalk 17:46, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Black Diamond Equipment edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

All information, including the correct logo image, is completely factual, independent information, therefore there shouldn't be any question of whether or not it is promotional. The citations that are from Black Diamond Equipment's website are in those cases the only information available on the subject. I have applied for a username change to eliminate any possibility of thinking i am affiliated with the company. I am trying to replace an inaccurate page with accurate information. Thanks for your help Orange Mike.

Decline reason:

Your edits may seem to you completely factual and independent, but even after puffery like "a company comprised of passionate climbers and skiers, and the company takes pride in its rich employee culture" was removed, your new version with its long lists of "Notable product milestones" and awards and "Black Diamond also supports many non-profit organizations" and "All scrap metal and excess cardboard... is recycled" and "Black Diamond uses a rigorous rating standard " reads like a manifesto about itself from the company, not an impartial encyclopedia article about the company.

This sort of thing is why editing with a conflict of interest is strongly discouraged. If you do not see that it is promotional, that is exactly why you should not be editing your company's article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a noticeboard for company announcements. Even with a new username, you would not be allowed to make edits like these.

Please read:

These rules would still apply to you with an individual username. I have asked at WP:CHU for your username change request to be put on hold until this is resolved. If unblocked to change username, do you agree to confine yourself to suggesting factual changes on the article's talk page? JohnCD (talk) 10:37, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

That's fine, I would agree to that, I'm simply trying to update an accurate company history. Most of the information as is is either vague or simply wrong. Thanks.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Black Diamond Equipment logo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Black Diamond Equipment logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:23, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • You can ignore the above message - I have inserted the image into the article, so that it is no longer orphaned and no longer subject to deletion. JohnCD (talk) 14:33, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unblocked edit

Given your assurance above, I have unblocked this account, and will note at WP:CHU/S#Blackdiamondusa → Andyranderson that your rename can proceed. If this is your real name, read WP:REALNAME about the pros and cons of using it as a username. Please do not edit from this account until your username change has gone through (except to ask any question here, or to amend your entry at CHU if you decide on a different name).
