I realize that the possibility that your grandfather killed himself is unpleasant to countenance, but unfortunately it's one with at least tentative foundation. Wikipedia articles follow what sources say, and sources do discuss this. I took Albert Lord's "Oral and Early Literature" in [year redacted], and I remember discussion in section of the mystery. (My recollections are not a source, of course, and I hasten to make clear that I don't recall Lord himself saying any such thing – just the teaching assistants.) In any event, it's unavoidably something the article must address. If there are any reliable, published sources (see WP:Reliable sources) you can direct me to casting light on the question, I'd be very happy to add them to the article; even if you just have a citation, I can get the full text.
