July 2021 edit

Hello, I'm DoubleGrazing. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Linus Sebastian, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Also, please do not add unnecessary external links, whether linking directly or via footnote citations, where the external source does not support any of the article contents, especially if the source is a commercial one, as this can be interpreted as spamming. Thank you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:38, 6 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Linus Sebastian has been reverted.
Your edit here to Linus Sebastian was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8mG-RkN2uTzJc8N0EoyhdC54prvBBLpj, https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8mG-RkN2uTzs37XwpDdQbYMLBOEImvzq) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. music or video) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 04:10, 7 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi DoubleGrazing, I am new to Wikipedia and I learnt about the importance of citing and mentioning sources thanks to you. I am really thakful to you for your advice. I have reverted by edit, and made changes to republish it. I have removed "iBuyPower" from citations and added it as a link, and as you said I have added the link for Secret Shopper Series 1 and Secret Shopper Series 2 Playlists in the Wiki. Please confirm if my edit is fine now. You have been a great help, and you have mentioned important wikipedia guides in talk which will be helpful for me. Thanks for all of it. I request you to please check and confirm if now my edit is correct. Thanks in Advance Amitbajaj1973 (talk) 04:26, 7 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Amitbajaj1973! Your additions to Reality distortion field have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 03:15, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello DanCherek, thank you for advising me about how to put my content for Wikipedia, I admit that I was at fault, I am new to Wikipedia, but I get it that sub-standard content isn't going to do any good for Wikipedia. I have been a Steve Jobs fan, and loved editing this Wikipedia page, but as it turns out I was a lot careless with it.

I understand that copyrights are really important for Wikipedia, not following copyrights can cause Wikipedia serious trouble. You asked me to put quotations in Double Quotes, I was using Single Quotes, which was my fault and I corrected that, besides that, you asked me to put content in my own words. I CANNOT change quotations and write them in my own words obviously, but as far as other sentences are concerned, I did the needful. In the first paragraph of my edit, I included the chapter number from the official Steve Jobs biography as a reliable source. And I confirm, that their is no direct copy-pasting from the book, I wrote the content in my own words as you asked.

In total I added 2 more reliable sources, besides the 4 existing sources in my text. Besides that, you talked about Copyrighted Images, I am sorry, but there's something wrong between us, I confirm to have not used any images in any form or format in the entire article about Reality Distortion Field, so i completely ignore that for this article.

I hope my steps were sufficient for your liking. I would be glad to further improve based on your expert recommendations, do consider my edits as I worked really hard to find useful examples from life of Steve Jobs. Amitbajaj1973 (talk) 04:27, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi — my message above was a general template about copyright, and not all of it applied to your edits; sorry about the confusion about images, etc. Your reinstated edit still contains text copied directly from [1], including the entire paragraph about Jonathan Rosenberg. This is a copyright violation because that website is copyrighted. You need to summarize information from reliable sources in your own words. DanCherek (talk) 04:40, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I get it, and I am sorry once again, I somehow assumed that you were only mentioning the first paragraph to be the culprit, so I added sources and changed some things hoping it would be enough. I have the permission from the site owner of that site miylin to freely mention it on Wikipedia, but still I will improve the Jonathan Rosenberg's paragraph. is there anything else you expectAmitbajaj1973 (talk) 04:44, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Well, it was all copied or closely paraphrased and not limited to just that paragraph which is why I removed the text. It sounds like you have a conflict of interest with respect to Milyin, so you should read the WP:COI guidelines on how to provide the necessary disclosures as well as best practices. DanCherek (talk) 04:51, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hey, Sorry for late reply, I rewrote the entire 2nd and 3rd paragraphs and more quotations and citings including. I did everything I could to ensure that the words were of my own so as to solve the copyright problem. I considered it easier to just edit it rather than to provide necessary disclosures. I hope everything is as needed and will be good enough. Amitbajaj1973 (talk) 05:40, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
