Speedy deletion nomination of Careers In The Outdoors

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Careers In The Outdoors, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. WuhWuzDat 13:28, 17 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Plea for help!!

edit

Hi Trident,

I found you on the editing history for the London Boat Show and I'm hoping you might be able to help me...... I'm currently trying to write an article on Careers In The Outdoors, a careers event for people wanting to pursue careers in the outdoors, which this year is being help alongside the Outdoors show and the london boat show. Sadly my first article was deleted for claims of advertising, and i am currently trying to edit it so that it meets the wiki rules. Do you think you can help me????

I am currently editing the article within my user page..... http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Amelia.longbottom/Careers_In_The_Outdoors&action=edit&redlink=1

Please help, I'm a bit of a novice at this!!

thanks, Amelia.longbottom (talk) 12:23, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Amelia, I hope that this finds you well! Love to know where you found me from, but I always love lost causes! I see that a helpful admin deleted your stub page - unusual behaviour - but I fetched most of it back from a Google recovery, and you can now find it here on my stub page: having been here a bit longer, they should let it stand. I can see why someone called it a piece of advertisng and tag'd it with COI, but I think there's enough there/refs available to create something which could stand. The lists of exhibitors and speakers is overly spammy/advertising as far as Wikipedia is concerned. Its a work day today for me, but will try and get something done over the next 24hours - keep watching that stub. Best Regards, --Trident13 (talk) 13:23, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Your an absolute star - thankyou so much, fingers crossed!!
OK, well I have quickly done as much as I could with it, but to be frank its still a bit to doggy! It needs more references from third party sources - ie, not 247recruit - and I have tagged these in the draft on my stub page - see the fact/cite tags. A quick look on Google didn't find many (any???) to support these, so your job now is to go and find all those press and media reports of the event to support these claims, ie: DailyMail, magazines, etc. If in doubt, read WP:REF. Thanks for taking the time, I will get on that now, thanks again

I have managed to add in a couple, are they along the right kind of lines? i know they arn't quite media/press coverage or even third part sources, but i will keep searching for those.. thanks again, (also noticed your from Wales - hope your not stranded in snow anywhere!!) Amelia.longbottom (talk) 16:33, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK, almost there now! Do you have any other references? Happy to put what is there now into production as a stub. Rgds, --Trident13 (talk) 12:13, 4 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK, haven't heard from you, but have placed that stub page now into production. Rgds, --Trident13 (talk) 10:58, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trident, sorry I havn't been around in a while, things got a bit crazy over Christmas! I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thankyou for all your help! Can't believe my first article is up and running, literally wouldn't have been possible without you. It's so nice to know there are still people out there willing to help. I'll have to get thinking for my second article now!

Thanks again, and Happy New Year Amelia.longbottom (talk) 15:51, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

OK, no problem! Thoughts for the future: (1) Develop articles on stub pages. You can add as much text/references/make as many edits as you want, and create something substantial without the critical eye of other editors and Joe Public; (2) Watchout for COI articles where you have an "interest" in an issue. Ask someone else - as you did with me - to develop it or comment. Hope that helps, and if you need anything, just ask! Best Regards, --Trident13 (talk) 16:14, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
