Mediterranean cuisine edit

Hi Alicia, I guess you are the same person who added this material before. I will try to make allowances for the fact that you are new here, as there are many things to improve both about the text and about how you are conducting this discussion. First things first - there is something to discuss, so here on Wikipedia we do not simply revert people's edits without explaining the reason, as you have now done on mine. Reverting to and fro is no good (I'm right! He's right! No, I'm right!) as it is simply "edit-warring"; instead, we need always to work out a consensus solution. I actually added a discussion to the unnamed account (IP address), but here it is again as I presume you've not seen it:

"About the Mediterranean cuisine edit, I'm not sure it can stand as it is, for two reasons. Firstly, Portugal isn't on the Mediterranean, while islands like the Azores are still further away; and secondly, the material would need to be cited to a reliable source so other editors can verify the claims made. We could leave it at that, but there is quite good reason to want to have something about Portuguese cuisine in the article: it's not unlike Mediterranean cuisine, and at least some readers (and editors!) expect to see it there, whether it properly belongs or not."
"What I'd suggest, then, is that we should redraft the piece to say something like "Although Portugal lies on the Atlantic, not the Mediterranean, its cuisine is in many ways similar to the cuisine of Southern Spain. Characteristic dishes include ..."[1][2], where [1] and [2] are references to scholars of cuisine Adam X and Beatrice Y who have written about the similarity of Portuguese and Southern Spanish cuisine. I think that would work in the article. Other approaches are no doubt possible."

My point was - and still is - that we can't just include the piece as it is, since Portugal does not actually belong by virtue of its geographic position. It might possibly belong if we can prove, using reliable evidence, that Portuguese cuisine is considered by reputable authorities - scholars of cuisine, major cooks, historians - to be included in "Mediterranean cuisine". I must tell you that I have studied the subject (and brought the article to "Good article" status, which means it is formally reviewed), and I didn't find any such evidence, but I will retain an open mind on the question.

The immediate issue, then, is that the piece does not contain suitable or sufficient evidence to stay in the article as it is. The "citation needed" tag after it is a reminder of that: evidence, in the form of one or more citations, is required. I do hope this is clear: editing on Wikipedia is quite a complex task, and it takes time to learn. We are all here to help, and I look forward to working constructively with you. In the absence of any speedy reply, I hope you'll not mind that I've gone ahead and attempted a rewrite of the section along the lines I suggested, with additional citations. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:58, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Chiswick, I am indeed new, thank you for your patience with my edits. I didn't find where I was supposed to add a comment after I've resubmitted by edit with the added links.

Let me provide some sources if this can help: https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL/mediterranean-diet-00884 (this includes Portugal) https://ich.unesco.org/doc/src/19925.pdf (linked to above article)

Would you recommend to link the words to external websites or add sources/references at the bottom of the page ? [User talk:Alicia7886]

Ah, I already replied on my talk page. On adding citations, they need to become little blue numbers in the text. That happens if you add 'ref' tags as I did -- you can examine the edits to see how the refs are composed. All the best Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:04, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
