I set up a new article on "History of broadcasting in Australia" Using materials from the history of broadcasting article you wrote, as well as the ABC article and some entirely new material. I added a new bibliography. I hope you will add new material to this article. well we very largely agree! Good. we disagree on the Electrophone: 1) it's point to point and is not broadcasting; 2) its leaders did not move to broadcasting; 3) the RS do not include it; 4) worst of all it's distracting--it tells students that they should pay attention because this somehow is connected to broadcasting. Wow! I wasn't expecting such a quick reply. As you no doubt have seen, the article has started to take its ultimate shape, but has a long way to go in terms of information. If you with your resources can contribute in this direction we could get it "live" and useful in no time at all. My only sources of information are newspapers (via Trove) which are semi-reliable but largely cuts out at 1950 and my own knowledge (also semi-reliable!).

I will have a proper look at this over the next week or so. In the meantime, are you familiar with Bruce Carty's book "Australian Radio History"? http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/150970094?q&versionId=198297364. It lists ALL known stations. On the negative side, Bruce does go on about his own little hobby-horses and interests. Nevertheless, a valuable source of information.

Hi Albert

Thanks for the note re. 2CM. I don't think this call sign ever operated on the broadcast band, which may be why I never included it. Please correct me if I'm wrong. No, I haven't got around to Carty's book yet, at the moment I'm looking for a copy of WRTH 1978 or thereabouts. We used to throw them out when the new issue appeared, now they're selling for hundred$$$. The biggest hole in the chart is frequencies immediately before novalization. Can't even remember 8DR's and I worked there!

I've added a link to 2CN in the "Amateur years" section; he was clearly pre-eminent in that field. One point about the 2CN article you might like to clarify: was his long-distance broadcasting record really set with a "O.0037 watt" transmitter? 3.7 mW is an extraordinarily low power; difficult to measure even today. Or did he have a 37 watt transmitter with a 40dB attenuator before the antenna? The mind boggles. In any case that leading character should be a zero.

Hi Albert

I can't remember whether WRTH would have had any interest to amateur radio operators; not something I've had any experience with. Its main hobbyist use would be for DX listeners; people who for all sorts of reasons wanted to hear broadcasts from remote parts of the world: Some chasing the big shortwave broadcasters: BBC World Service, Radio Moscow, Radio Free Europe; American Forces Network and the once great Radio Australia, whose transmitters jump from frequency to frequency almost on an hourly basis according to predicted optimum for the target area. Others search for freak reception "skip" from broadcasts that are usually confined to a local area, but get ducted to distant places by the ionosphere. Knowing the frequency and time of day is a great help in identifying these, and WRTH is awash with this sort of information.

I'd be most interested in your PP presentation; you can send it via the Wikipedia email link. I have it enabled and it works a treat. As for the RPH stuff, I only included references where they took over existing transmitters (just to keep the size down and not to drown out the historical stuff I avoided all the recent narrowcasting transmitters, which appear to be legion), but those I missed deserve a mention.

No, I don't have your email address, and don't need it, and have never sent you an email. Private communication with other Wikipedians is facilitated by Wikipedia, assuming it is enabled (under Preferences check box marked [] Allow other users to email me) without passing on the user's email address. I presume it allows attachments but have never tried, and have only used the facility once or twice.

If you go to my Userpage you'll find on the LHS under Tools "Email this user".

Sounds Shakespearian, but nothing on Trove, and best WP list of Pacific Campaign airfields (United States Army Air Forces in the South Pacific Area#Airfields and unit assignments) has nothing even close. Separating 3DB from KIIS 101.1

Psst, |callsign= is part of {{Infobox radio station}} — and the revamp which I've converted Magic 1278 to so you can see it.
