  Hello Adriandandrea25. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 19:29, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Advice about creating an article on your rewards scheme

edit

As an anyone-can-edit site, Wikipedia is very vulnerable to being used for promotion, and so is extremely resistant to anything that seems like that. We much prefer articles to be edited by people who are not connected with the subject; however a code of practice at WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest has been worked out. In brief, for any but absolutely uncontroversial changes, don't make them directly, suggest them on the article talk page or by proposing an article, declaring your interest, and let uninvolved users decide.

If you want to make an article about your company's reward scheme, you should make a draft in your user space. See Help:Userspace draft for how to do that. First:

  • Read WP:Your first article
  • Make sure you can establish notability. This is our criterion for whether something deserves an article, and it is not a matter of opinion but must be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people unconnected with the subject thought it important and significant enough to write substantial comment on?

If you think you can, write your draft, citing those independent references. Make it much shorter than the 20kb monster that was deleted. All the gory details about exactly what you get with the "Halifax Z103.5 Summer Rush Experience" or the dates when the "purehmv Sex and the City 2 Dress Contest" is on, or the exact discount for 275,000 points are material for your company website, not for an encyclopedia article. Keep in mind that when writing the article you are not a representative of HMV addressing a potential customer - if that's how it comes across it will be deleted again - you are an independent author describing the scheme in a neutral way to a reader who is interested in such schemes. Take the utmost care not to sound promotional. You may find User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard helpful.

You can ask for comment on your draft at WP:Requests for feedback, if you like. When it is ready, submit it at WP:Articles for creation, disclosing your interest, i.e. that you work for HMV: either it will be accepted, or you will be told why not.

Chopped and published, but there are some minor non-COI things you can do to neaten it up; see feedback here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_feedback/2011_April_14#User:Adriandandrea25.2FPurehmv_.28Canada.29. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:01, 15 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! I'll let the others in my department know!
