Your participation at Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Gogebic_Community_College.E2.80.8E shows that this account is a WP:SOCK of Ad at Gogebic Community College Jytdog (talk) 14:30, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have changed my username previously because I was listed as GogebicCommunityCollege or something like that and changed to AdatGogebicCommunityCollege to comply with the username guidelines. I was requested to change my username and did so. Complying with a request is not a violation of rules. Please remove this claim.

username invalid

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "AdatGogebicCommunityCollege", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Jytdog (talk) 14:29, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have already changed my name previously. I was GogebicCommunityCollege or something like that and changed to AdatGogebicCommunityCollege to comply with the username guidelines. My username clearly identifies me as "Ad at Gogebic Community College."
"You are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87." <----My username follows this exactly!!! There is no username violation.
AdatGogebicCommunityCollege (talk) 08:35, 14 January 2015 (CST)
as far as I can see your username does not signify a person but rather a position at Gogebic Community College. "ad" is not any person's name that I am aware of. Such usernames violate our username policy. Jytdog (talk) 14:43, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry that you jumped in before you understood what you were doing. This place is pretty complicated and there is a learning curve. You chose - you chose - to argue with people instead of learning. But I acknowledge that it is not simple. Jytdog (talk) 15:02, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't believe the problem is that I didn't know what I was doing. While there may appear to have been a small conflict of interest on my part, I only provide accurate and relevant information - none of which was in violation of copyright. I'm not here to "argue." I tried following the rules and attempted to learn what I was "doing wrong." When you're new to a site and your posts are removed without a clear explanation (no - your acronyms for reasoning are not enough), it's difficult to figure out what's going on. In addition, the constant flagging of my account - which I attempted to fix by changing my username (as requested) only to then be flagged for having multiple accounts. Then, I'm given links to read other Wikipedia pages so I can understand the rules and those pages provide even more links. I certainly didn't understand the complexity of the rules but I am astonished by the fact that you're wasting time governing a grey area for a user and a page that will get incredibly low number of visits.
AdatGogebicCommunityCollege (talk) 09:05, 14 January 2015 (CST)
Of course you don't think you did anything wrong. The problem is that several other editors think you did, and you have been combative instead of asking questions and engaging in real dialogue. Above all WP is a community and we talk through our differences, calmly, based on Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please read WP:CONSENSUS - this is the foundation policy for everything we do here. Jytdog (talk) 15:22, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
and as somebody involved in education, you should be well aware that when there is complexity, a student who refuses to acknowledge that, and refuses to try to learn, is pretty much a lost cause. You can deal with the fact that WP is complex and that there is a lot to learn, or you can blow that off. If you blow if off, you will fail, and you will eventually be "expelled", just like any disruptive student, or you will get mad and quit. Your fate is in your hands, and not anybody else's. Jytdog (talk) 15:24, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm not trying to be combative or argue with anybody. In response to violation claims, I have taken the requested steps only to be met with more violation claims with nothing more than acronyms left as explanations. I can appreciate the complexity of the rules and community but I certainly don't feel the process I experienced was as fair, helpful, or simplified as it should be. For now, I will save us all time and not participate - I've wasted too much time making minor updates to a page and battling violation claims only to get nowhere. I will consider starting a new "personal" account in the near future, at which point I will do my best to follow your "advice."
AdatGogebicCommunityCollege (talk) 09:50, 14 January 2015 (CST)
as you will. when i look at the history of the article, I see that you added a bunch of content that violated copyright (plagiarism is wrong in any context as is copyright violation - you should have known better than to add such material - that is pretty terrible scholarship anywhere). What is worse is that the copyright violation puts the encyclopedia in legal danger. Then you "edit-warred" to keep the bad content in place. This too is bad behavior. As far as I can see, you never asked anybody what you were doing wrong - I find no evidence in your edits that you even tried to learn. I am happy to help you learn, but you have to be open to it, and you have to do your homework by actually reading our policies and guidelines and figuring out how we work. If you decide that is not worth your time, that is of course a decision you are free to make. based on your placing scare quotes around "advice" in your comments above, it seems like you will remain unwilling to learn. like i said, as you will. you will find that I will quickly lose interest in trying to help you the longer you refuse to acknowledge that the burden is on you, and you alone, to learn. i want to be welcoming but "you can lead a horse to water...." advice

edit

You have stepped into a bunch of conflict in Wikipedia.

Here is some advice for you.

  • 3) read the COI guidelines (WP:COI) carefully and follow them. Make the appropriate disclosure on the User page of the account you intend to keep - the one you are changing your name for.
  • 4) learn how WP works before you try to improve the Gogebic Community College article, and when you begin to try, do so using the "edit request" function on the Talk page, as described in the COI guideline.

Good luck! Jytdog (talk) 15:00, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Coffee // have a cup // beans // 12:26, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
